Hey, I have a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router (model BEFSR41) and it won't seem to work!!! It won't let me connect to the internet, communicate over the network, anything.... I can see no reason why it won't work, and I know its the router because I have put in different routers and everything works.... *gr* any ideas?!

not being funny but have you registered the mac address of the router with your isp ????? you need to let them know the mac address so it can talk to their network, also reset your modem so it finds the router and the new mac address once your isp knows of the address themselves.

Actually, ISP's don't support Routers out here, you're supposed to use a hub and pay for additional ip addresses=)

ivan, I have a linksys router as well. You arent giving us much information to work with. Is this a new router that you just got? Have you gone into its configuration at all?

What is your isp and do they use dynamic addressing or do you have an assigned ip? Have you set this all up in the router? Give me some more info and I can probably help you out.

In example: I have cable. My IP is dynamicaly assigned and changes approximately every three days. My ISP does not support multiple systems, but what they don't know won't hurt them.

The Linksys has a web interface. Upon logging into it, I set its external settings up just like I would on my PC. It immediately was assigned an ip address from my ISP. I then set it up as DHCP on my internal network and rebooted my systems. After coming back up, I went back into the interface and verified that the router did have an appropriate external IP and that my systems were on the DHCP table.

Give some specifics about the problem, and I can probably help you out. Another option is that we are in the same time zone, I think...maybe an hour off...I get home about 11:30 and will be glad to help you out on MSN or something else.

May be a dumb question but it hasn't been asked....have you checked to see if there is a flash upgrade available from Linksys for your router? That may be the answer to the intermitancy (think thats a real word). :wallbash:

I bought the same exact router this weekend and it works perfectly fine for me.

I just plugged it in and it works fine. But before i did that i unplugged my cable modem and turned its power off for acouple mins then plugged all my computers to the router.

At first my second pc couldnt log on to the internet but that was my fault, the network card wasnt installed properly.

Check all the basics, i know it seems dumb but you never know, it could be something simple like NIC drivers.

    Good Luck :)

i wouldnt call that router junk, its actually good for what its worth..

when its 'not working' is the WAN light on?

can you get into it? point your browser to 192.168.1.1?

have you tried a reset of the router?

i would also reccomend a firmware upgrade, linksys just released one like last month..
