i bought an aspire one with windows xp on it, and i'd rather have the official linux install. i got a linux recovery cd off of torrents, and i thought i'd give it a try in virtualbox first so i didn't break my new toy. when i boot i get this: Code: /linuxrc: line 1: cd: no such file or directory grep: /proc/ide/hd?/media: no such file or directory finding livecd done, it is scd0 unziping rd-base.img.bz2... bzip2: i/o or other error, bailing out. possible reason follows. bzio2: no space left on device. input file = /mnt/rd-base.img.bz2, output file = (stdout) bunzip error, maybe not enough memory? any ideas what's going on, tips on how to get it to install, stories of installing linux on an aspire one, or links to share would be appreciated.
512 Ram, 8gb virtual hard disk, same config as the models that come with linux preinstalled. i found this: http://www.dailycupoftech.com/2008/09/02/diy-acer-aspire-one-recovery-usb-device/, going to give it a try.
If it gives the error immediately I would guess it can’t find the disk since /proc/ide/hd?/media doesn’t exist.
