    Linux cannot run windows games.

You can install Wine which is a Windows emulator on Linux or there is Cedega. I have not used these myself. From what I have heard though, its not worth the hassle as the games dont run as well.

You are best creating a second partition and turning your PC into a dual boot.

Some more recent games have linux clients, allowing you to run the games your have bought under Linux. I haven't used them myself, but am under the impression they aren't very easy to set up.

There are Linux-native games - Enemy Territory & America's Army are both free downloads and easy to install; I gather there's a Linux-native Quake4, too.

I haven't messed with the whole WINE/Cedega side yet - I have read that it has trouble with the latest DirectX stuff, though...

    UT2k3 installation:
    Run graphical installer,
    Hit next a few times,
    Run executable file,
    Start fragging

    What could be harder :)

bascially if you A don't want a dual boot and want windows games to run on Linux you need wither Wine (i don't recommend it) or Cedega. You have to pay for cedega unless you want to go through the hassle of compiling and configuring a CVS build of it. After that it's a batter of running the cedega program on the windows installation file. it should then work, but it is far from perfect. If it were me i would setup a dual boot system as this would provide the most compatability.

Just install windows first then install any flvor of linux that you like. When you feel the urge to kill something just boot into windows and your laughing. Other than that your limited to the games with native linux version such as UT2K4, RTCW:ET, etc. I have tried it before and it usually works but for the best performance use a dual boot and save your self the hassle. :)

Personally i prefer WinXP Pro and Ubuntu or Suse 10.

What I have done, is slipstreamed all of the xp updates using nLite, and got rid of everything I don't need (no wmp, no help files, no bluetooth) I got it to boot in 15 seconds, and everything ran super-fast. Alternatively, try the free vmware player, which installs xp to a disk file, works really well for games, I found only about a 10% loss in performance.

Hate to hijack this thread (but I don't want to start a whole new thread. . .)

I recently purchased UT 2004, how can I install this on Ubuntu Linux? Do I need to download a file, or are the needed files already on the CDs?

i am not sure as the only copy i have had is the dvd version which comes with the linux port so i would have no idea on the cd version. But it's probably a Shell Script that needs to be run.

It's just a little annoying when people ask for answers to questions that they haven't even bothered to try and answer for themselves. A quick google search will find the answer and iirc there's even a readme file on the third CD.

I suggest you go with Debian, there is nothing different about this distro that makes games play esier, but it's a nice distro anyway..
If your interested in gaming on Linux, give some of the native games a try, or, explore with dx9wine, which is WINE with Directx9 added, not tried it myself, but i've heard it's not bad performance.

While, when I try to run the install script, I cant see signs of anything happening. It doesn't open a terminal window, and I'm not sure what the commands are to launch a script from the terminal. . .

Right now the PC is in the middle of an update (5.04 to 5.10), would I just need to do "sh linux_installer.sh"?
