what on earth is going on? i have been trying to install redhat 8 and mandrake 9 with no happy results.

both installers stop during packet installation after installing few packets, even with minimum set of packets selected. i can still move mouse cursor but it otherwise installers just sit still doing nothing.

    specs:
    athlon xp 1800+
    sl-75kav-x mobo
    512 megs pc133
    awe64
    maxtor 20gig hd (pri master)
    teac 32x reader (sec master)
    3com nic for personal network
amd hpna card for net conn
radeon 9000 pro (thank ati for releasing linux drivers)

i want to learn linux, but installation problems are preventing it. :sigh::wallbash::waah:

are you sure it has actually stopped installing, leave it installing for a while longer, just incase it takes a while 2 install

    What is an awe64?

Anywayz, yeah are you sure it's stopepd? If you can still move the mouse then it's very unlikely it's crashed, as if it does, you'll know it :p I know installing RedHat can be very long, some of the required packages (in order for it to run properly) sit and stew and do sod all for quite some time. Usually takes me about 30 minutes to install RedHat.

Otherwise your specs look fine, nothing should be to pissy about anything.

I have found that redhat tends to just stop but not appear to crash when the cd is not reading well. If you burned them from ISO's try burning them at a slower rate. If that doesn't work try another drive.

12x should do it. Already tried.

Anyways, I managed to get RH8 installed and updated. However, it works with like 1 second lag. :eyebrow:
