Linux Linux (RH9) and Serial ATA raid.

    Hi, Linux n00b here.
    I just upgraded my pc, and bought 2 serial ata drives and have them running in raid0.
    ANd i have wanted to try linux, i have Red Hat 9.

    But i am having big problems trying to get linux to install on the drives (raid0 array)
    ANy help would be much appreciated. It seems i need to recompile the kernal source to give support?!? :confused:

    What sata controller is it and what is the problem your getting ?

    Sil 3112 controller

    It doesnt detect the drives - on a standard red hat 9 install.

    Help mucho appreciated.

    The problem I had was redhat 9 setting the drives to PIO mode on install, but it still detected the drives so I don't really know about your problem. I didn't have it setup as a raid array.
    Sorry I can't help you anymore, though this is a known problem with linux and sata drives.

    I think you can still use the sata drives but just not in raid, I'm pretty sure its due to the controller and the lack of decent drivers. So you will probably be able to use them in the future.
