I think the current reason most gamers aren't big linux users is because none of the games out on the market are only windows and/or mac based.
I've read that there's some programs for linux that allow you to play those games on linux systems. I've mostly found programs that require a price, but I'm mostly looking for free/open source programs.

I know there are gamers on linux, so I'd like to get more intel from you guys who are, or who are knowledged in the area.

It's not a linux based world, but it should be- imo

tbh if your looking to play a lot of chart games and big titles I'd just say; don't both, it's not worth the time and hassel messing about to get them working when you could just be enjoying them.

I know its a very negative view but trust me i've tried. I mean yeah you'll get ut04 etc going with a fairly little amount of effort but most stuff is just a pain.

then again It can be nice for indie games and random things you find arounf the net. All depends on what your after really.

Really and truely the linux community need to realise this negelected segment and really establish their own force in the gaming sector, to interest more publishers in having linux versions as viable alternatives.

With dx10 games things will only become harder for windows games to run on linux.

It really depends what you want to play, things like half life 2 (css etc) are surprisingly easy to setup under wine.

i had to figure out how to install a font before Steam/CSS worked. and now it's kinda weird, i have to initially start CSS thru the servers window in steam, otherwise i'll just get a black screen. it's temperamental so i just stick to playing games on windows.

    hmm...that'll definately come in handy.

I'd sign up for Cedega, but doesn't it cost? I forget if you have to pay for that one. I know Wine is free though.

Cedega isn't free no... But it's worth it IMHO if you want to game on Linux. Wine is nowhere near as good for games as Cedega.

I, as well, am impressed with the list Cedega has. I think it would also do everyone a favor if gaming companies would release games for all forms of computer. It'd definately make history the day a game comes out for linux as well as mac and windows.

i'm gonna pick up a PS2 to play some games, i think. i'm sick of partial solutions, and i really don't like having to boot into windows whenever i want to play a game

Cedega costs, yes. All of 5 dollars a month, which gives you voting rights on what games you want it to support.
