Portable Linx 7/8/10 Owners Thread

I really hope so, I am enjoying using windows 8 on the small touch screen, I imagine windows 10 will be even better.

 

Has no one managed to get the front camera working then?

 

my front camera works fine as a webcam

 

just tell whatever webcam software your using which camera to use

 

It doesn't have any webcam software built in anywhere?

 

The bundled "Camera" app seems to use my front camera just fine.



Also works fine with Skype.

one thing I can tell you, is be very careful when playing in the bios of the linx tablets, mine is currently a brick, with at the moment no way to recover, will be phoning linxtablets to find out if they have any ideas.

don't ask which settings I changed, cos I cant remember

 

Can't you get into the BIOS holding down the the Power Button and Volume+ keys?

 

My son dropped my 10" forcing the power button into the chassis. Quick Google showed if you jamb your finger nail into the seem and run it round it comes apart.

The power and volume buttons fell out, taping them in place from the outside and putting it back together worked for me. Works fine again.

IIRC, you press and hold the power and vol+ buttons until the Linx logo appears and release before the circling dots appear.

 

unfortunately the linx logo never appears, it is a permanently off screen, as in it isn't even registering the power button being pressed

 

if there is a bios there will be a battery somewhere - have you tried taking it to bits and taking all the power sources off it in a bid to clear the cmos? (clutching at straws, I don't have a linx tablet but thinking about it like a computer - maybe a mistake!)

 

Be careful when playing around with the BIOS - it seems that there is a setting that bricks the device with no way of recovering (no CMOS battery - at the moment, the only suggestion is to let the battery drain completely, but that could take weeks without the tablet being on...).

More here - sadly nobody can remember what setting they changed

 

It's a Li-on battery so waiting for it to drain fully enough for the BIOS to reset could take some years. Taking it apart and disconnecting the battery would be the quickest way. I've seen mention of running a guitar plectrum or thumbnail around the seam is enough to separate the front and back.

 

sorry been away for a couple of days, before I dismantle it, i'm going to ring the number on the linx tablet website, and see what they say, if I have no joy with them, will take it apart and have a play
