Ok i am most likely going to go and get this done tomorrow at my local piercing place, i will be getting it pierced on the right side with a labret. But i now find myself torn between the decision as i have been reading up on dental problems etc, at first the pain was the thing i was concerned about but i kinda got over that. The things i have been reading mention things like tooth erosion, gum bleeding and severe damage to the mouth and lip. Any opinions and thoughts would be great, thanks.

dont do it! i personally think it doesnt loot attractive at all, being a guy and seeing a girl with it its a big turnoff. Most girls iv asked think the same vice versa about piercings although i heard piercings on your eyebrow like those "clip" ones look kool.

Personally i think a lip piercing would seriously look bad but thats just me.

Others may find it attractive however.

I personally think girls look soooo hot with lip piercings..black rings. But i dont know about the other way round, anyway what about the dental issues? Think it will have a big impact? Tell me what you think guys.

OK, you wont get problems if it is done properly.
But most piercers cant do it properly and position it properly. Make sure you go to someone who is very good. Try and find a place that just does piercings, not a tattoo place thats does them on the side.

Also on a side note... side lip piercing = emo

Not heard of it myself. Just make sure your comfortable getting it done there. If he doesn't change gloves all the time after touching different things (going from non sterile to sterile stuff), walk away.

Make sure you follow the aftercare advice to the letter. You don't want some big ugly scar on your lip.
Also if you want to use a ring in the hole in future tell them this. It will effect positioning.

Finally... don't drink before you get it done (alcohol)

Rings will usually do that and poorly placed labrets. Thats why positioning is so so so important, i cant stress enough if he just puts a dot on your lip that looks central and then goes to pierce it consider if you want to stay.
He should be looking inside your mouth, at your gum level, teeth etc. Then lip and so on.

Hmm, labret is not the thing they put through it, it is the position on your lip. A lip piercing is close to the lip a labret piercing is closer to the centre of the chin. It sounds like you are having a side lip piercing with a stud. I had both a lip and labret piercing, the labret did cause irrevocable damage to my gum line so make sure that your piercer knows what he is doing.

Does Penski still read bit-tech anymore?

If so, I completely agree with kiljoi...
I always considered him to be the resident piercing expert in these parts.....

(Nipples are still at 6 gauge (4.11mm), I've decided not to stretch them to 4 gauge (5.18mm))

If you get it done, get a stud not a ring, all lip piercings chip the enamel off your teeth, but studs aren't as bad as rings (although in my opinion rings look better)

For me it was the opposite, I tried the studs and they were the ones that destroyed my gumline n constantly cought on my teeth. Now i have a well fitting BCR I have no issues at all. Speak to an experienced piercer, he will look at your mouth and tell you exactly what you should wear.

Ice, i do know penski's MSN but I don't give out anyones without their permssion, I'll highlight this thread to him when he is back online.

    /me waits for penski's response.

I've had a segment ring in my lip on the left side for 2 years now, would highly recommend them to anyone who wears CBRs, they're so much more comfortable. I'll stress again that you should research how piercers should operate, and scrutinise the people you go to very carefully to make sure they conform to the correct standards for hygiene.

    Labret piercing.

Ive got my lip pierced, was my first piercing all those years ago *memories*

Right in the corner of my mouth with a small ring (not BCR as the ball anoys me)

Its high enough up that ive never had any problems with it knocking on my teeth, the dentist even commented on that saying it was unusual not too see any marks.

I so hate this 'emo' trend to get lip piercings, when I first got mine people were like 'wow thats cool' now its just seen as a normal piercing :grr:

Advice to piercing places: talk to other people who've had piercings and see where they would reccomend. Even if you dont know them ask anyway... we love to talk about them!
