    I dont have a lot of news, but a lot of prototypes.

    Actually I have a lot of work in the office. But step by step I will be finish the new waterblocks. Apart the production I try to improve how to cut the cpu waterblock-coldplates in a good way.     Hi,
    there's not that much new except a lot of paperwork. In the last few months I've been able to test the new water cooling system for the milling spindle. This cools the spindle at least up to 30°C room temperature, as it should. I haven't been able to test anything beyond that because it was already midsummer. I've now tested the spindle cooling heater, which was basically installed 2 years ago, for the first time and it works great. The water is at operating temperature within 5 minutes.

    The fretting rust of the tool holders is also history. Tool lengths of less than 50mm work great. That sounds healthy. Accordingly, I had to run various tests to find the right tool. One of 6 tools, working fine. The rest is crap.

    Now I have to finish the waterblocks first. After that, I'm planning on building a small, cheap active loudspeaker with Chinese drivers for very small amount, which subjectively don't make a good impression. But more on that later. After that, it's back to rehab and then the filter housing will be built. Hopefully that's it and I'll finally have clean air in the workshop. Finally, the final commissioning of the pneumatic tool changer

    The No. Uno CPU waterblockproject is continuing in the meantime. I've now received new saw blades from China. And I've received thick saw blades from Germany that I've had ground down on both sides. So either cheap blades from China with a low yield of slots, or expensive reground saw blades from Germany for a high yield. In this context, the sawing strategy also needs to be determined. A new base plate holder for the coldplates has already been milled of 25mm aluminum and will be anodized next week.

    Almost exactly a year ago to the day... and not a step further lol.

    I just don't have time to build the filter housing. But luckily I have everything I need, although to be on the safe side I'll be ordering 2 new filters soon if I see this. This is the pre-filter that didn't have a pre-filter. I think it's closed. o_O In the meantime it's also got a pre-filter that I can vacuum every few months.

    I vacuumed it out and reinstalled it. The same with the F9 main filter, which still looked pretty good but is 2 years older than the other two filters. After installing it I had a bit of flow again and the pressure difference monitor came on.

    Then I went from 41hz down to 38 hz. That suggests that the H13 final filter will soon be closed and needs to be replaced. But that's OK. 5-6 years of service life is fine.

    I have rehab starting at the end of January and will make sure I tackle the case after rehab.

    Asrock_HM77 - MXM

    It's a bit old, but there are still a few users for the Asrock HM77 MXM, especially for retro projects in related to mini PCs. In this context, I also made water coolers for 2 AMD MXM cards. Jetplate waterblocks for maximum performance and a slightly finer structure than usual help to dissipate the heat.

    Asus Striker Extreme

    Another fan of retro PCs sent me an Asus Striker Extreme with the aim of cooling both the north and south bridge as well as the MOSFETs and CPU as one water block. I had to use over 3 kilos of copper to make this possible. The flow is excellent and it looks great in a retro PC.

    EVGA RTX 3070 TI CX3

    Not for retro fans yet, but not quite up to date either. A waterblock for the EVGA RTX 3070 TI CX3 in a new look and aRGB. Minimal restrictions, elegant design and good temperatures on the chips characterize this cooler. Various cover materials are available at no extra charge and are optionally available as a nickel version.

    XFX RX 6800 MERC 319

    As the second graphics card waterblock release, I would like to introduce you to the waterblock for the XFX RX 6800 MERC 319. This is one of the first coolers in the new design. The cover has been fitted with a cover to cover a large number of screws. The visual result is worth it. In addition, we rely on the tried and tested technology of the jetplate waterblock principle with microchannels. The cover material and screws can be freely selected according to design requirements.

    Asus B550I Aorus Pro AX

    With the Asus B550I Aorus Pro AX waterblock, there is another full-cover waterblock on my release list. It cools the chipset, MOSFETs, coils, CPU and SSD. Everything your heart desires. I made a few changes to the design compared to the Gigabyte X570i waterblock, which covers the screws and integrates an aRGB. Nice piece. Don't you think?

    Liquid Extasy Waterblock - Minisforum BD790i
    The trend is increasingly moving towards ITX systems and occasionally there are great boards for any application. The Minisforum BD790I is such a board and of course there is also a need for cooling. We have therefore developed a powerful water cooler that also cools the mosfets and coils.     Conclusion: 16–18 m/s for metal chips. For wood chips, a bit less. I haven’t found data for CFK (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) ad hoc, but it should be in a similar range. At a volumetric flow of about 455 m³/h, the airflow velocity is no longer sufficient—it drops below 16 m/s.

    I’m currently printing an extended funnel to slightly increase the capture area and get a bit closer to the workpiece. God willing, it will be finished in four days. If I don’t crash today, I’ll install the new fan. A master-slave socket will be installed next week, so the fan will turn on whenever the belt sander is switched on.


    Additionally, I also extract dust directly at the belt with a vacuum cleaner: Thomas 1530 with 1500 W. Overall, that should be more than sufficient.

    The filter’s final pressure differential = 450 Pa. What does this mean in practice? When the filter is clogged, I only have about 180 m³/h volumetric flow and 6.4 m/s airflow velocity because at roughly 350 Pa the additional fan stops. Absolutely ineffective. So yes, the fan unfortunately doesn’t do much. After years, I wanted to save a bit of money since I’m a little tight right now. But it’s okay… a filter only costs about €25 and will easily last 6–12 months. That’s manageable.


    I recently replaced the filter for the small HSC milling machine for the first time after 5.5 years. Admittedly, I don’t mill daily, and the indicator light has been blinking for about a year. The best way to solve this problem is simply to unplug it. As long as the main end filter doesn’t signal, everything is fine. And a clogged filter actually filters better than a new one—lol—provided there’s no breakthrough. But as I said, the end filters are still perfectly fine, which you can expect from roughly 30 m² of filter surface.


    By the way, no matter what… the main extraction system has to manage around 1800 m³/h to maintain airflow velocity. Alternatively, upgrade to a D150 mm pipe. Since the two booths that currently consume about 300 m³/h each are gone, this should just be possible. I should note that all filters are already several years old. With new filters, it should easily be achievable. [Edit] 1400 m³/h with new filters at ~75 % fan power, including both booths taking 300 m³/h. So that definitely works!

    The belt sander topic should be wrapped up with good results in a week. After that, I’ll work on the booth extraction for the two CNC machines. For the large CNC, I first need to mill the enclosure and then see what remains for the main fan of the big CNC machine.


    Workshop dust extraction has been replaced/augmented with a single device:
    Room air purifier TAC ECO II. It achieves 1000 m³/h with an H14 filter and 1600 m³/h with an H13 filter. Factory default is an H14 filter, so slightly more than the system I currently use. For €600 including replacement filter, I just had to grab it. I covered the two intake openings with G2 filter fleece to keep out the coarsest dust. I can easily vacuum that every few weeks. This further increases the filter’s service life.
