    Hello

There seems to be quite different thoughts here - Should LLC be enabled or Disabled when overclocking?

I have a new Asus P6TD Deluxe mother board and have been overclocking a i7 920 to 3.8 and 4Ghz. When LLC is enabled the load temps in Prime95 seem to be much higher than when LLC is disabled.

Should I have LLC enabled or disabled? At the moment I have it enabled. Running at 3.8Ghz with a CPU voltage of 1.22 I get load temps of 72 degrees C, however when LLC is disabled the load temps only reach 69 degrees C

Which is the better way to have the overclock?

adam_bagpuss Have you tried turning it off/on ?

    id have it enabled

the reason LLC is there is to combat Vdroop which gets worse the higher you set the Vcore

if your PC is stable without LLC enabled then there is no need to enable it.

you may find though that enabling LLC you can set the Vcore lower in the bios since the volts reaching the CPU will be higher than without

Usually Enabled. It compensates by increasing the voltage under load, to prevent stability problems. If you are stable with it off, then turn it off! :)

So what you are saying basically is -

if your system is stable with LLC off then you can keep it off there is no need to have it turned on? You would only need to turn it on if your system was not stable at that voltage?

Yup. If it negatively affects temps, leave it off it you are stable :)

    Thanks for all the replies.

Well ran Prime95 again over night and got some good results:

    Running i7 920 at 3.8Ghz
    Core Voltage 1.21875
    LLC Disabled

Prime95 has been running overnight for over 10 hours and the max temps are 67/68 degrees C

When I had LLC Enabled the max temps were 72/73 Degrees C

So from this I may have a little bit more temp head room and try and reach the 4GH mark?

May need to up the CPU Voltage a little, but at least the temps are lower now.

    I'd say enabled!

It helped massively on my Phenom II 550 X2 BE.

With the third and fourth core unlocked running at 3.5ghz it wouldn't be stable with 1.38vcore, but after enabling 29% llc, it is prime stable! Made quite the difference for me!
I havent played around with the fsb just yet, because it is several years since i last overclocked! 1700xp amd tbred at 2.6ghz! Those were the (simple) days!
