I'm having trouble loading the driver for the XP's third-party "mass storage" installation.

    Specs are:
    SK8V mobo
    AMD Opteron 148
    Raptor 74GB HDD
    Old Dell's floppy drive

I don't know what to do. Which drivers do I use (I've tried the ASUS SATA drivers and the WD SIIG SATA drivers already)? Or my connections the problem? This is my first experience with a SATA drive.

    Thanks for the replies

I have a similar problem as well. Sorry, I can't help. Try looking in your manual.

    Hi

If you are using the onboard SATA then you should only need the motherboard drivers. You should of got a floppy disk with the drivers already on it. If not then make sure you download the correct drivers for your motherboard. Stick those drivers onto a floppy disk as thats the only option for loading the drvers from on the install.

First off have you set your bios. The bios needs to be set so it boots from scsi or from the sata hard disk depending on your bios.

Next when your computer has boted go into your sata raid bios and set up your hard disk to what ever raid you want or select no raid etc.

Then next time you boot and windows searches you need to hit F6 to install a third party SCSI driver. when its loaded up its setings it will come up with a screen to select your drivers for your SCSI device.

You need to hit the "S" key to specify your driver at which point it will serch your floppy for the driver. You should then get a pop up of all the drivers on the floppy. Make sure you select Win XP and then bobs your uncle you can now partition and format and install windows on the selected SATA hard disk.

I hate it when it comes to re-install time as I dont have a floppy in my computer so I have to open her up and plug one in each time. If only you could use a CD. I will never put one of those ugly devices into my nice pretty Tower as I have no use for them for the last 6 Years until SATA came around and XP dont have preinstalled drivers and support for it.

Im sure some of the above you may already know about but that is basicaly it, there is no othere way as that is it. If you got the right motherboard driver then it should work. I plan on getting a couple of those raptors and shunt my 2 120GB SATA seagates to a PCI SATA controller.

I had a similiar problem with the SATA driver disk that came with my ASUS board (P4P800). The files were corrupted. I just downloaded updated drivers and created a new disk. Worked perfect then.
