    The Treasure hunt thread was going a bit AWOL so I decided that we need a new one for local delicacies.

    Here in Middlesbrough, we have the beautiful Parmesan, AKA: the Parmo

    [IMG]

    That is what a homemade one looks like (but sold at a takeaway next door which I will frequent more often :D)

    It is made like so (according to wikipedia)

    Still not too sure on that Parmo thingy of yours, DougEdey. Just looks very very wrong.

    Here are some good ol' fashioned Belgian french fries with sweet mayonaisse. Apparantly, only in Belgium are there shops devoted to selling merely french fries and fried meats to go with the fries:

    Mmmmh-mmmmh! Delicious.

    Phở: Vietnamese rice noodle soup; prevalent in Toronto alongside Chinese dim sum and East Indian cuisine.

    [IMG]

    I regret skipping breakfast today after viewing this image. It takes several hours to prepare a good serving at home because producing a refined flavour in the soup is a very delicate matter. However, the world's finest-cooked Phở can only be found on the poor streets of Vietnam (for only a dollar).

    Mouth... is... watering..

    Not really ultra-local, but it's all I can think of:

    [IMG]

    Edit: Should point out for those who think that's just a ceremonial dish, I eat it regularly. Tastes lovely. Great dish and I really can't see what all the fuss is about regarding the whole intestines thing.

    Edit 2: Translation: Haggis = A dead haggis, with the legs removed and the head cut off
    Neeps = Turnips, mashed up
    Tatties = Potatoes, mashed up

    That looks like a gorgeous breakfast Nath. We have a shop round here that sells a full breakfast in a bun, including Black Pudding.

    I'm pretty sure Stornoway stakes a claim at being the origin of black pudding (at least in the western world) Nath. Tastes bloody lovely though. The name "blood pudding" is more enjoyable mind.

    Parmos = Cake of the cheese variety. My local chippy will parmo up anything; Beef parmo. Yup. Pork parmo. Yup. Cod parmo. Don't think I wanna ever try that.

    Yorkshire puddings!

    Black pudding has been made wherever peasants have kept a pig, by cutting its throat, running the blood into a bucket and stirring it with a stick to break up the fibrin and get a fine clot.
    Fried it's a disgusting mess, but fresh from the butcher, sliced up with the skin left on, along with porkie pie, cheese baps and pickled onions it's an essential part of the pub quiz night buffet.

    For Sunday dinner, Yorkshire Pud rules. :clap: Capt Pedro's are fancy Southern poncy puds, Delia knows how to make em proper.

    The other local delicacy is rhubarb,

    Don't EVER go with Rich to the races. His big Ascot hat hides his horse dip.
