I know you-re already you're busy making improvements  but would it be possible to add a forum login (& logout & User CP) on the front page? It has always struck me as odd that B-T doesn't have that.

Site front page (where I usually start - I look at the headlines there then head to the forums)

    http://www.bit-tech.net

(Since the forums front page has that already)

This is a strange request, there is nothing you can do on the site by logging in (currently).

I actually thought this in a recent meeting we had regarding the forums, it is odd that we don't have it, but then we don't have anything yet, such as frontpage commenting, which would make it at all useful to anybody.

    1) I open FireFox, type "bit-tech" then hit [Shift]+[Enter] = http://www.bit-tech.net
    2) Click on {Forum}
    3) Log in. (used to be once only but this now appears to be on a timer)
    4) Click on {User CP} to check subscribed threads
    5) Open & read threads
    6) Click header at top of page = http://www.bit-tech.net
    7) Check stories.
Now if I want to check for responses again I have to back to step 2 -> If I don't check for responses before I log off anything that happened in between is NOT flagged as unread when I next log in so a {User CP} here would be nice too.

    So I'm odd, what's your point? :D

If it's huge pile of work then I'm not really too put out by it but to me it would be a nice feature (kind of like the screwless cases or thumbscrews - I can live without them but they sure are nice).

Same here, I visit the front page first then forums, but my method of getting to Bit-Tech itself is somewhat different: I use morning coffee, a Firefox addon that opens your favourite sites all at once.

You shouldn't be logged out when you leave the forums. Are you telling it to remember you?

I've set Firefox to remove all cookies upon browser closure...for security.
And in anycase, in the Bit-Tech forum shuffle, automatic logout was enabled.
    Which is a pain.

I seem to have missed that? I still log in automatically...

    I browse bit this way:
Open Firefox (with a keystroke in Fluxbox), and my session is restored, with Bit-tech forums on tab 2 :D

I have the same setting as H.B. However, the log out now appears to also be on a timer. Sometimes I now have to re-log in - even if I haven't closed the browser. I don't ever recall having to do that before (unless I logged out or closed the browser & cleared the cookies).

Are you ticking the 'Remember Me' box when you login?

Nope, I never needed to before and, as stated, I also set FF to clear cookies on exit (I had assumed that "Remember me" simply set a persistent cookie - which wouldn't persist in my system anyway). However, the need to re-log in happens even when I'm still in FF. How does it suddenly forget me in that case? (I've got my guess but...)

Session timeout was set to 15 minutes idle, I've upped that to one hour.

    Thank you.
It's always a pain to believe you're logged in and find you're not.
