I've just bought a refurbished Logitech MX Revolution mouse off an Amazon.co.uk seller, and it's arrived, but it has a US plug. I phoned logitech, and they tell me that they are different, and it'll break if i use it in the UK (with either a travel adaptor or a UK plug. I'm not convinced however. So i wanted to check with you guys what you thought.... The Base unit has rating: 8.0V ---- , 500mA The AC Adaptor has: Input - 100-240V - 50/60Hz 0.2A 10VA Output - +8V ----- 500mA It's the 100-240V that is making me think that it'll work (as we're 240), and the 50hz.. Maybe one of you can shed more light?
If the power supply says input voltages of 100-240V - 50/60Hz then it will likely be a switch mode power supply and will therefore work in the UK and the US. Best way to check is to plug the power supply only in, and use a multi meter if you have one to measure the output voltage to be sure its still the desired 8volt. Allthough personally I would get amazon to arrange a pickup and replace the hardware with kit ment for the UK, as I dont see why I, or you, should have to buy a mains adaptor for it to work. EDIT: could always get amazon to ship you a mains adaptor free of charge, might be cheaper for them to do that than arrange a pickup and replacement.
Well, it's an amazon seller, and i have contacted them and asked them to send the parts or arrange a refund, but since it was considerably cheaper than buying one new i'd like it to work if i can! Don't have a multimeter unfortnately
Are you sure its a US plug? US plugs have two flat pins. Euro Plugs have two round pins. As a temp fix, if its a Euro plug you 'can' plug it into a standard 3 pin wall socket. (all of Europe runs on the same voltage) All you need to do is open the lower covers by pushing something into the top earth hole. I've done this for printers & monitors in the past that have come with a euro plug. A small plug converter can be found at many places, like tescos, comet, argos. They are only a couple of £s. If its a US plug (with the flat pins) as long as the AC>DC transformer says: 100v to 240V AC to **DC then you'll be alright with just a plug converter. However, if it says 110V only then you need a US to UK 110v AC to 230v AC transformer.
It's definately US - the pins are flat, and the plug says what it says above, so in theory i should be ok... Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if you can get one of those multiplug surge saver things that has a built in US travel adaptor as one of the points?! Long shot i know...
The critical bit is that the transformer is labelled as "Input - 100-240V - 50/60Hz" which means that the UK 230V-50Hz supply will be just fine - AS LONG AS the labelling is correct - hence the advice above to plug in the transformer WITHOUT your mouse connected to begin with. How you get the mains power supply to it is either by the sort of 'travel converter' a yank would use in the UK (ie the opposite of the travel converters we take to the USA with us) or else finding a compatible socket - eg if you find one on a surge strip that's fine - and based on the label whether that delivers US or UK voltage it SHOULD be okay.
Or just cut the plug off and screw on a UK one Then travel adaptors and surge protection US plug style, problems solved Unless of cause the transformer is molded into the plug, not having 1 of these mice I would not know.
Yeah, the transformer and plug are one thing unfortunately. I wish there was such a thing as a surge strip with an adaptor built in - why hasnt somebody thought of that before?!!?
Well what ive seen at work, as we have employes in the US that come to the UK, what they usually do for the team is just use a US style surge protection block, and then stick a single US to UK adaptor on the end of the block when it plugs into the wall. Which is surely easyer and cheaper than having a surge block with adaptors on each socket Maybe ebay has a US style surge block that is located in the UK.
I'm just being silly really - i know there isnt a whole lot of point in one! I only have 1 US plug anyway! Only reason I asked is coz i need a new surge block anyway, so it'd be cool if i could kill two birds with one brick
All you need is one of those two pin shaver adapters - they cost ~50p - the two holes on them are designed to take europlug and US bi-pin plugs. - H.
