mines 2 1/2 years and going strong with the exception of the battery (Its a Dell, so that explains it... f**kers ) and the temps are slighty higher, but a simple fan mod and im good
Heumm, neul_x86.. that is 100% normal. It happens with ALL Lithium-ion battery made in this planet. - If you do NOT use them they age really fast (even if you leave the laptop plug-in with the battery). - If you use them they age (normal and expected). - If the battery is warm it age fast. - They become decalibrated quiet easily. About every 30 recharges a recalibration is needed to have the correct percentage of battery fill level. - If you recharge the battery fast, it ages the battery faster. - For the first weeks, the battery life diminishes quiet a bit, but then stabilizes (for example, a 9 hours laptop battery life will give you ~7 hours and stabilize at that level) Lithium Ion battery last for about a year to a year and half, and much less if you put it in a shelf. You can slow the aging process b y putting the battery in a bag and then in the fridge if you don't plan to use your battery often. Yes, it sounds terrible, but it's the best solution we have. - Ni-MH/Ni-Cd has it's power diminish as the battery reduces...so like at 30% battery life the laptop shut down on you. It Can only be recharged a certain number of time, and by recharge I mean, unlike lithium ion battery where it's not 80% = 1 cycle, but rather the second you give current to recharge the battery it's 1 cycle. Also, it discharge itself very quickly when not in use. End result, life span and battery life is shorter than lithium-ion battery. - Led battery. Contains led, shortest life span, and battery life, can burst with little heat, and has the same problem as NiMH. If you have invented a new battery solution, then please tell us. Not only you will make the gadget world better, but also have proper electric cars. Also, Dell batteries are Sony's, Panasonic which are used in most laptops OEM including Apple's, Acer, HP, Alienware (even before Dell acquisition), among others. You also have Samsung brand which is used in other laptops but not as popular and the battery has the same advantages/disadvantage as the other brands.
I only got the heatsink, didn't need the motherboard. And it was all free, even though it is 4 months out of warranty. I never thought I would complain it's running cooler, but now it's cold to the touch and it's winter, so when I rest my hands on the case it's cold! The heatsink is still a aluminium version though and I was hoping for the copper one.
I'm glad that it all worked out, even though you might want to buy a heater now. Crazy southern hemisphere, with its winter in my summer.
Crazy "Northern" hemisphere with it's magnetic south pole and having summer in winter. I vote we ignite Jupiter and do away with such extreme seasons and that pesky night time.
meh, i know i know, but still, i have a another laptop with a longer lasting battery and others have the same model with different batteries... its just a matter of the OEM that made it as to how long it lasts... if I am correct, mine was a Sony...
Myth, else it would be noticed. You probably used the laptop a bit differently which did something big on the long run. Also, the laptop hardware plays a part. Again, more you use the battery the slower it ages... and well put the other factors in, and well... you get what you get. I know that Toshiba Satellite for example is a battery killer, as the battery is IN the laptop, and because it's low end... don't expect proper cooling. So you have a recipe for a short battery life.
I am shocked to here about Dell having a faulty notebook. They do have very good customer support and product quality is good after all which is why they cost more compared to other brands.
how the hell can you say that 3 of my friends bought dell lapotops a year ago told them no to but htey still did. all of them have had a problems, power hdd breaking, memory loss after 1 year crazy silly no laptop should be like that 2 of those laptops where xps range so they are now all doing and i am doing i bought a toshiba a year ago still looks and works like it was new
i remember ringing dell up becouse my daughters new laptop had something rattling around inside it, i rang them and the girl on the end of the phone had me stripping the laptop, she was actualy telling me what to do, i had the thing in bits on the table, couldnt find anything, so she talked me through re-building it and said she will send someone out, true enough a guy came and took it away, 2 days later another one arived, dell are awsome.
I don't own a Dell, I never said that I directly had any experience I just implied it indirectly probably because of reviews on Dell products and reading about positive feedbacks when it comes to their customer support. Can't believe you guys already think I am working for Dell and patronizing them. I even just acquire my notebooks and electronics at auction sites such as Gobid in order to save.
Don't take it personally my friend. It's people having a bit of fun. We have a strange sense of humor here.
Ok your loss. But so far I put Dell as top OEM quality. In Canada, I know no one that is disappointing in his Dell. The only problem is the crappy service from Dell Home, but Dell buisness.. heck they will replace your screen even for 1 dead pixel, going against their policy to make you happy. My guess, is that it's like ASUS. Everyone love ASUS here, and their service. But In canada it's just abysmal. - Stickers used for model number on circuit board, made with a label maker instead of the traditional method of actually having the name printed on the board. - Breaks often - Long distance call for tech support and RMA, where I and friends wait over 1 hours... (we where not happy with the ong distance bill) - pay shipping to return the device - Take one month to send you a replacement motherboard - Replacement board is not new, but refurbished, full of dust, even on one that is less than 1 year old. So much dust that an air can can't remove the dust, but you have to use a brush to remove the compact dust in the PCI/ PCI-E, RAM slots. - One of my friend had received a deep scratch motherboard replacement which of course did not work. ASUS blame YOU and voids the warranty, and after a battle (and several rude hang up on him) they decided to accept the board and they'll send another one. Shipping needs to be paid to return teh broken one. and the replacement has the memory lock system broken. (note that at every exchange, ASUS took approximately 1 month). The board was thrown away and got a Gigabyte one, he said he loves it. Let's compare that with Logitech. - Instant service on the phone. - something broken not software related -> You get a new retail mouse box with everything inside, and you get to keep the current broken one. All they ask a is a fax or e-mail your proof of purchase, with your case number received on it. As for Dell.. here is a different story that I got. When I got the laptop I realized that the cursor animation of Vista was not playing once you scroll using the touchpad. I contacted Dell via phone, instant phone answer, my problem was received and looked into. about 10 min later on hole (tech support contacted developer of driver, apparently), they send me via e-mail a file replacement for the mouse driver, and a reg file, where once applied the problem was solved. So, I guess it depends on which region you are in.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you haven't had good dealings with Asus in the past. personally I like DFI
DFI, BFG, Gigabyte, MSI are in my list for hardware parts my next video card/motherboard. Thanks. ASUS motherboards, HP, Creative, Antec PSU (not their cases), Viewsonic, are in my black list NEC, EIZO, Dell, BFG, Logitech are in my premium service/product list. Unlisted items are ones that don't come to mind, or have not tested their product/service yet by me.
