First computer was an Atari STFM with 1/2 MB of RAM. First proper PC was a 486 SX 33 with 4 MB RAM. That had to be upgraded to a DX 66 in order to play Worms, .
I miss my Amiga. It was a A4000 with a Cyberstorm '060 in it. For it's time, it was awesome. It had a MASSIVE 16MB of RAM, and (drum roll)... a CD ROM DRIVE! For it's time, it blew any PC into the weeds.
First computer I built was a kit computer in the 70's. I have no idea any more what it was but it was nothing like what we call a computer now. All switches and LEDs with no TV out.
It was something out of a hobby electronics magazine. I've done too many drugs since then to remember any details
First home pc was a Tiny Celeron jobby, onboard graphics, cd Rom/floppy 8gb HDD. It was a peice of crap but oh well.
DAYMN! YOU WAS ROLLIN IN IT BRO! Proper Pentium and a Tyan board! At 14 I got as far as: Cyrix PR200 (OCd to 233) 32MB DIMM 66MHz PC Chips socket 7 motherboard 24x CDROM 6.4GB Quantum Bigfoot (5.25" 2,500RPM) Diamond Stealth SII 220 4MB Voodoo 1 4MB Some 15" POS monitor First proper games I played was Resident Evil series and anything Bullfrog made. Cost me nearly 800 quid from 2 years saved paper round money.
...Cyrix, now that brings back memories. My first PC was a 486DX (did have a BBCB prior to that with a tape drive for some Elite), but I was too young to know anything about it beyond the fact that it played X-Wing and Commander Keen - I did have to learn some DOS commands though, and how to reconfigure memory. The first one I knew anything about was: Cyrix P166 (running at 133Mhz) 16MB DIMM, later upgraded to 48MB 12GB HD ATi 3D Rage 24x CD-ROM 17" CRT I mainly remember Cyrix trying to claim that their P166 was the equivalent to a Pentium 166, despite running at 133, and it was a total lie!
Great thread I was kinda of a late to start i thinks ... apart from the Spectrum +2 i had in 1987 .... True gamer your just a showoff with that +3 mate!!! 2002 I was given a Pentium 2 333Mhz, 1x 2gb hard drive and x1 1gb, 64mb ram and a Riva 16mb graphics. My first upgrade was another 64mb of RAM and bought a seconds hand 32mb TNT from a guy at work. My Quake 3 was now silky smooth @ 1024x768
I remember our first ever computer being an Evesham back in 93/94 - my dad actually bought it from their store in Evesham. I was only 4 or 5 at the time, so the specs are a little hazy: Intel 486DX2 66Mhz 4MB RAM ~250MB hard drive 14 inch SVGA monitor 14.4k Modem Windows 3.1 and it came with an HP 4L laser printer (yes, the one with the "PC LOAD LETTER" error message!). Fancy stuff!
The first PC we had was a 286 with 2mb of RAM and a 40MB HDD. I got given 2MB of RAM for my birthday so I could upgrade it to play Syndicate. lol's! That is pretty similar to the first PC I ever built myself but it had a chaintech motherboard and the original Nvidia RivaTnT with 16mb of RAM.
Much the same, 200 Mhz Intel MMX processor, 32MB RAM and a horrendous S3 Virge graphics processor which struggled with just about every game I tried to play! My first computer however was a ZX Spectrum 48k complete with rubber keys and a separate cassette deck...until I upgraded to the 128k which had the cassette deck built in.
The first game console I touched was an Atari 2600. I learned BASIC on a VIC20 and CBM/PAT 4096. My first computer was a C64 (heavily modded over time), Amiga 500, then Amiga 2000; my first PC an Intel P90. Absolutely. "Quake is Good for You"!
1984 - Acorn Electron acquired a ZX81 + 1k memory expansion a few years later 1993 - Amiga A1200 (I shoehorned a 120mb 3.5" drive in this and could not fill it) 1996 - first PC, weighing in at £1700 Cyrix P150+ (later upgraded to a proper intel) Matrox Millennium 2+2mb 3dfx voodoo 1 SB AWE32 I think it had 512mb ram and 20gb HDD (possibly this was later on after various upgrades) edit: I also got ISDN installed after I got my first job and was one of the original LPBs in quake > 2012 - i7 870 GTX 460 ti 448 4gb / 128gb SSD + 1tb HDD
My first pc was an Amstrad PC1512 pic courtesy of wikipedia I used to spend hours playing Test Drive 2: The Duel and Bruce Lee. Then I had an Amiga 1200, a Viglen 486, a succession of Dells until I was old enough to start building them myself.
I remember my dad got from work one of the first laptops that came with windows 95. It was our first computer at home and i fell in love with it. I dont know any of the details of it, but i can tell you the battery weighed as much as a decent sized book and lasted long enough to complete a whole game of minesweeper. Impressive.
