As someone that knows NOTHING about London, but having been there for a week over New Years' eve last year): A lot of the touristy things are doable on foot. Westminster, Big Ben, Across the Thames, Burrow Market, Tower Bridge, and an evening in Sky Gardens was a good walk for the day. We added the Natural History Museum and Abbey Road to that, but that was using busses and the tube to get around. The Natural History Museum is amazing, and one of the few things that doesn't cost anything in London. Abbey road and the Studio shop - meh. The Walkie Talkie Sky gardens is GREAT for a view and a drink, but, as was stated, you need to book in advance. Also - Take your passport, they check that. Other than that, I enjoyed Camden Market for a look (but it was rather steep), and I enjoyed The World's End in Camden as far as pubs go. One thing I should add is that I was there between Xmas and New year's. That means there's a billion people cueing to get in absolutely everywhere. The other thing is that London is steep. I was quite surprised to see they wanted (something like) 15 quid to enter St. Paul's Cathedral. In Germany, you can enter churches for free, even outside of mass.
Thank you all! I'm compiling the list and work on the itinerary as i go. Probably split certain areas before Disneyland, and another separate area post-Disney. We do like saying aboot (but in a really fast way, so its hard to tell), but "Eh" is very noticeable. And we also hiss at people who don't walk on the left side of the escalator, so that's a plus! Will post pics for sure.
Oxford, Cambridge and Bletchley Park are all within an hour of London and very easy to do as a day trip. £5 tickets standing in the pit at Shakespeare's globe are fun (available on the day)
Also, on the way to Camden (some bus lines, at least), there's Madame Tussaud's as an obvious touristy thing to do.
So, London coming up this weekend. FYI, im headin to Brighton on one of the day too! Beach is cool. Will update again once i have a draft itinerary, but quick question: airport to downtown. Taxi or Uber? Because a cab apparently can cost like 50 pound............... :|
Just Get the Piccadilly line to Green Park, then Change onto the Jubilee Line down to Canada Water (which is near the square you're staying I believe). It will take an hour and a bit, and it might be pretty hot, but you should be able to get a seat, Cab won't be much faster. Grab yourself an Oyster Card (EACH!) when you get to the Underground at Heathrow, and put £30 on them, the trip should cost you between £3.10 to £5.10 per person to get from the airport (Depending on what time you arrive) Uber would be £40, and black you'd probably be pushing £70+, so dont bother.
DEFINITELY use the Underground, as Mankz says. Pity it's not 2018, as you could do the trip in about 30-40mins on the new Elizabeth Line (Crossrail).
