Photos Long exposure airplane photography

    Hmmm yes, the star trails in that one picture are strange. They're intermittant and change frequency, not what I'd expect at all.

    Makes me wish I had a decent camera and an airport. I'm sure one of those would lose its appeal faster than the other....

    Great photography. Really shows how the thrust to weight ratio has increased over the decades.

    Photographs are great, thanks for sharing.

    I've read about a technique for car trails where the photographer places a black card (or hand) across the lens when there is no traffic. That keeps it to a single exposure so less post-processing.

    Never heard of that being done before, it would reduce the chance of overexposure too, I guess.

    Was in an article in a recent Amateur Photographer; works well for fireworks too I believe although I've never tried it myself.

    Found a thread with examples on Flickr.
