I understand what George is saying, I am mainly doing this for fun plus I want bit to become more aware of the awesome world of mechanical keyboards!
thank you longweight for putting together this keyboard guide, i know i am being a bit ignorant here as i havent read everything you've put but i dont know anything about keyboards, i am using a basic logitech keyboard which works fine for everything including gaming, i just would like to know why there are many who spend £100s on keyboards with mice its understandable with the dpi and all the what not
It's about the switch under the key caps. Mechanicals are much nicer to type on and give you less typing fatigue plus the range of keyboards available and the customisation of the keycaps makes it fun!
Would I be right in thinking that one of the advantages of a mechanical keyboard would be reduced wear on finger joints, as you don't have to slam the key right down into the board for it to register - unlike the keyboard that I have at work? Forgive me if I'm being a tad slow
Pretty much, some switches are heavy such as Blacks and Clears but browns are nice and light and very good for typing.
Definitely, any mechanical (be it the 'stiff' blacks or clears longweight mentioned or any other switch) will definitely be nicer to the joints than standard keyboards the likes of which you would have at work. You don't need to mash the key to the bottom, you can push each key a minimal amount leading to a very pleasurable and fun typing experience.
For long typing session there is no substitute for MX blue! click and release and all without bottoming out.
I soooooo want some metal key caps now Why must BT/GH show me things I really want to buy, my wallet cries every time I visit GH or look at the BT mech board thread
