Why not just splash out on 2 Dell 30" Displays. From what i'm reading, You will want the U Series of Dell as they use a better panel.
The U3011 is just over £1000 so you could do what i'm planning and have a centre 30" display, and have 2 20" displays either side.

    2x Dell U2410 or 2x U2711, or 2x Dell U3011 as suggested by samkiller42
Once you go with IPS panel, you can never touch back to crapiness called TN panels.

Here is why (the post was not aimed at budget monitors.. this is assuming you have the budget to get something descent).

You will NOT regret this purchase. If you are patient, you can wait for the size monitor you want to be on special.

The Dell U series features a high grade CFL lamp for a nice white (unlike white LED's), metal stand, with a metal mechanical system, loads of inputs, easy menu navigation, plenty of options to adjust thing, 1:1 mode, game more which turns off the color processor for reduce input lag (but personally, and like many here, don't notice a thing with 30ms at worst, input lag). The U2410, U2711, U3011 (not the U2311H) comes with 2 pre-calibrated color profiles, sRGB and Adobe RGB. Pick them once you get them out of the box (and also may want to turn on the beep sound it makes when pressing it's buttons), to have fantastic colors. Image is very sharp, crisp.

if you never saw an IPS or PVA panel upclose, well: WARNING, may cause seizures by it's awesomeness of image quality, and make you vomit when you see TN panels. :D

Ok seriously though, the Dell U series monitor and the HP LP2475, uses LG IPS panels inside. You can buy the actual LG monitor, but they cost a lot more, mainly for the name. Dell provides you the most for the dollar, and looks better, in my opinion.

The U series also has a light scratch resistance film by 3M. This anti-reflective film is not be to confused with scratch resistance.. it's just light scratch resistance. I haven't tested it's strength... I don't dare. But it should mean that if you don't use the smoothly cloth in the world, it won't scratch, and ruins such expensive monitor.

I have 2x Dell U2410 for 2 computers, I got them at 480$ and the second one (purchase a year later at 450$) on special at Dell website.

If you professionally edit pictures you may want to factor in a colour calibrator too, can be quite expensive but worth it from what I hear. IPS panels are well worth it, and with your budget it may be worth going for the 2x30" option (I know I would!). Its worth checking which connectors you will need for the monitor too, the fact that mine has two DVI and composite was really handy as I sometimes connect a system I may be working on, and I can also run my consoles through it (when I dig them out of the cupboard)

Try to keep an eye on the dell website for offers but also voucher sites for codes. I got 20% off my 2475w just because I happened to check around for a code.
