The last three monitors that I bought are:
    Samsung SyncMaster b2340 - £180 - Awful!
    BenQ G2220HD - £120 - Excellent value only 21.5" a bit small
NEC EA231WMI - £300 - fantastic, bought this one twice, have it at home.

I would like to try the BenQ G2420HD next which has seen some good reviews and reports on other forums. 24" and £160 (or E2420HD with speakers) or the LED backlight version V2420HD is within your budget at £180

If you can't afford either an IPS or a Dell Ultrasharp, here are some alternatives:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/24-D...n-LCD-Monitor-1920x1080-500001-250-cd-m-50-ms
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/23-D...-1920x1080-10001-300-cd-m-5-ms-Cinema-Quality!!

If you can live with 21.5" and can stretch another £34, you can get an Ultrasharp IPS panel with nearly every connection you will ever need:

There are a couple of local monitor experts around here (GoodBytes & PookeyHead) who can give more detailed and accurate advice.
