As the title says. I was inspired by the article on bit's frontpage, så i figured i want to make a nice etch and hang it on the wall (with some lighting ofcourse). I want it to be about A4 size, so some small details is preferable. I tried googling for some nice ones, but i can't find anything i really like. Anyone have something i can use or know where to get it? oh! and this is going t be etched by hand using a dremel, so it have to be blach/white. Not grayscale. (allthough i can modify it pretty heavily in paintshop)
I finally found a design i liked. I had to modyfy a small pencildrawing i found on google, but it did turn out pretty good in the end. Afer a few hours of engraving with a dremel: Working on the frame. Leds on the sides. at the bttom there is a few smoothing capacitors and a resistor. (sorry about the bad picture here): The caps. I drilled one hole for each cap. It was just enough space for them. Testing with one row of light. At this point i found thelight to be way to uneven, so I filed down the lens on the LEDs. (getting the LEDs out of their holes after they have been hotglued in place was NOT easy) Final result with flash. (nevermind the dust :O ): And without:
Wow that looks brilliant! I am thinking of puttin a design like this on my Chieftec dragon- have to window it first though
Hehe... it IS modding. well... Actually this wan't modding, as everything was made from scratch. It was made mostly to try out engraving (got inspiration from the article on the frontpage)
Wicked. I've been seeing alot of etching lately, showing the plexi scratched to bits from working n it, do you use the three stage polish ive seen n modding sites to clean it up or something else?
Thanks everybody There is no cleanup done at all. I just took the protective plastic of the side that i was engraving, before i traced the motive on the plexi. And took of the film on the other side just before putting it in the frame. If you look at the first pic you'll se all the scratches. They are in the protective film, not in the glass itself. I'm thinking about making more of these. Mabye get some better materials to make frames. The hardest thing if finding motives.. :\
