My friend and I played wow up until recently, we were pretty good and were in a top guild on our server, but as we progressed, in order to keep playing new content we had to be spending a HUGE amount of time on this game, these sessions lasted hours consisted of up to 25 people all logging in at a specific time. We eventually gave up; it was using up too much time. We really like the progression (levelling) concept of wow and items etc We also like that type of fantasy RPG. Maybe someone out there could help We are looking for a lightweight WoW type game, which is PC based and can be played online. We really need to be able to pick it up as a 2 player game, without a huge dependency of lots players to complete large amount of the games content. The sort of thing we were hoping for was like a multi player Dragon Age Origins We’d like to consider other games (fps etc), currently we both play CSS but the repetitiveness is getting wearing.
Copying this from the closed thread so apologies if already seen it... "Try Guild Wars. That was where I started and have recently got into WoW (which I enjoy too). There's not so much post-game content in GW but it's generally much more manageable and there's much less grind needed. It's also subscription-less so pick up a copy cheap and, if you don't like it, not much lost. GW2 won't be out by the looks of it until 2011 so you have a good year or more of this to hopefully enjoy."
left for dead one and two? if you're looking for something RPGish why not try Titan Quest co-op? great game and would fill that WoW void quite well i reckon
L4D2 Levelling? In RPGs your character levels up, but do you improve? In an FPS, with every character identical the only way to win is to improve yourself. Play an FPS. Become a better person.
Borderlands and L4D are great. Haven't played L4D2 or Serious Sam (yet) though. Also, I got hooked into Guild Wars a few years ago, it's pretty good, and nice not to have a subscription (or even micro-transaction!) game model.
Borderlands as mentioned looks to be the current RPG'ish co-op favourite. I am having a lot of fun playing the co-op missions in call of duty: modern warfare 2 but it will not provide you with the levelling experience, just damn good fun and some acheivements.
I'm a long time player in Guild Wars (though i've slacked off lately). It works in a very different way to WoW in its play style as when you make a party it will be you and your friend plus whoever else or "henchmen/heroes" controllable NPCs filling up your party, which is limited to about 8 once you reach the higher level areas. With your party your put into its own little game world (ie just you and your friend with the NPCs with the whole general player character stuff left to when you're in a town or outpost) to do the usual range of quests and missions. Although the NPCs aren't as useful at player characters can be (the heroes' skills are customizable however which can negate the generic henchmen class problem) you can still do all the missions and so forth with the right levle of diffculty you would expect in a game of this sort. Obviously there are the guilds that give the game its name but these are more the basically PvP fights for XP and other in-game point systems than any truely required piece of game play as they story and PvP are seperate (although you can enter PvP at specific points for party versus party action) when it comes down to playing the game in any form and as its very drop-in and out its freindly to those who like me aren't big on PvP but fancy the odd new challenge posed by human opponents ina game where big guns aren't present! Me and a freind have done a large portion fo the orginal and its expansions in the manner you seem to be asking about and we've found it very fun, so I hope my reply above helps. Any questions, i'll try and answer as best i can but I know there are other Guild wars fans about here as well!
It's getting on a bit now, but the original Dungeon Siege (and presumably the sequal, I never tried) had a phenomenally huge co-op segment. Actually bigger than the single player game, it was a vast hub-based land for you wander around in. Me and Joe once tried to complete it. I think we burned 50+ hours and didn't get close iirc.
We are already on LFD2 is quite good fun, but from what u guys say, for a bit more depth in a game Boarderlands and slightly more so GuildWars would be good choices. I'm gunna email the thread and see what my friend thinks of these. TY
