My old gaming laptop isn't hugely useful for traveling with as it's battery lasts about 2 hours and it's a bit heavy, so I'm looking for a decent ultrbook-style laptop no bigger than 13.3" screen size and for around a grand. I'll spend more if it's worth it, though. I've been looking at the Dell XPS 13 and Razer Blade Stealth (12 and 13" versions). The only issue with these is both are a decent chuck over a grand when getting a version with 16GB, which is preferable (lots of Chrome tabs and a VM or two). Anyone got either of these or something similar that they can recommend?
I have the current gen XPS 13 - And its fab. Mine is the bog standard 8Gb i5 one, and its absolutely fine. I can carry it in my A4 Folio which is fine, and have never had the need to carry the charger with me.. gets 6 or 7 hours of powerpoint/excel out of it no problems. The 1080p screen is the correct resolution for 13" as well. Only games I've played on it is Hearthstone, which obviously was fine. If you need pics of anything let me know.
I actually have the 15 version for work, an it is lovely, but it's works laptop. I've tried to get the 13 instead but they aren't having any of it. I'd rather own it anyway.
TBH, I only got the 13" because of the size.. it was down to that or the new Asus Zenbook UX390 or whatever, but I couldn't get my hands on one to play with, so no way I was buying it. I didn't look at the Razer because I don't think they've got the same kind of support network behind them.
There is a 'Like New' i5, 256GB model in Amazon Warehouse for £979. Think it might be worth a shot...
I got mine in a deal in February, when they were ~£150 off.. Mine is the 7200U, 8GB, 128GB SSD & a copy of Office for £1,002 inc. VAT Delivered - So I would say that as new one is a pretty good deal. I only use this laptop for Work and the odd movie if im travelling, but I'd definitely recommend getting 256 over 128 in retrospect - I've only got ~60GB left after the OS
I bought a 9350 last year from the outlet, i7, 512gb and 16gb from the dell outlet. 960 inc vat and del. Watch the outlet like a hawk, stock refreshes daily approx 10am and 4pm. As for the laptop, loved it. The super high res and i7 did wear the battery faster than advertised though
Bit reviewed the PCSpecialist Lafité III, which my missus already had at the time and it's really nice and well within budget.
Check this out. It's 15.6 granted but I thought good value. Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, 15.6" Full HD, Red £799.95 2 year guarantee included https://m.johnlewis.com/dell-inspir...orce-gtx-1050-15-6-inch-full-hd-red/p/3261272 Alternatively if you wait this wait you will find Dell knocking around 40% off the current generation of XPS and Latitude laptops to clear them out and you'll squeak more value in your budget.
A couple good points raised regarding Coffee lake release and the the Dell outlet. I'll hold fire and keep an eye out for some better deals. It'll give me a bit of time to clear out some other kit as well. As for the Dell gaming laptop, I'd absolutely buy it if I needed/wanted a gaming laptop.
if you can live with a 15", like the above dell the HP Omen often pops up cheap and seems to be well regarded. for 13" +1 on the XPS13
I've recently read horror stories about the Razer aftercare when buying direct. I might have a 10% off voucher for Dell Inspiron, Latitude and XPS laptops (not Alienware though) so let me know if you want it might expire before you buy or you could use it right now if you wanted it now as it likely won't stack with whatever clearance bargain offers.

Couldn't pull the trigger. Still a decent chunk of money to spend for something I haven't seen or read a review on.
