Thread title says most of it. A few months ago I bought my mom Botanicula to get her to use the PC more often and become more familiar with the mouse, kb etc. and she's been enjoying it very much. After finishing that I gave her Machinarium to play but yesterday I noticed she was almost at the end, so I need to think of something new. I showed her how Proteus worked and she didn't really like walking around in 3D, so I guess I'll need to stick to simple adventure games. Requisites: - Not too hard - Calm - Preferably as little random-clicking-around-to-see-if-anything-moves or pixel hunting as possible - Nice visuals is a bonus Any ideas? (If you can think of other good, simple, calm games outside of the adventure genre, don't hesitate to post those too.)
Easy adventure games... The Myst games? How about the Blackwell games? They are short and very easy, but I found them very enjoyable. Then there is Monkey Island of course. If you want to try non-adventure games try the Popcap games: Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled etc.
The adventure games I've played and enjoyed are the Sam & Max and Strong Bad series and going further back in time Grim Fandango and Monkey Island games. I have a few 2D adventure games but have yet to play them, Blackwell Deception, Home, To the Moon, Jolly Rover and Deponia. Some calm games I enjoyed are NightSky, Osmos, Lume, Zen Bound 2 and And Yet it Moves.
The longest Journey was one of my all time favourites. Great Story, nice visuals. It's sequel - Dreamfall, was a different game entirely.
Thanks for the suggestions people, I will be looking into all of them. Regarding Osmos, I actually tried that, but it wasn't as calming as I thought it would be… She was constantly in panic, frantically shooting at all directions to not get absorbed by the bigger bubbles. So that's definitely a no-go.
Point and click adventure games: DoubleFine's KickSarter game: Broken Age (Coming soon). TelltaleGames' Tales Of Monkey Island 5: Adventure Game: DoublFine's The Cave
