    Hello All,
I'm a little stuck on a graphics card for a new build.
Here are the specs of the build so far.
    ASUS P5Q Deluxe
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
    ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120 CPU Cooler

For the moment I will re-use a IDE hard drive, DVD-ROM, 3/5" floppy, 2Gb Ultra Ram, Ultra 600W power supply.
The RAM and PSU are quite new.

The graphics card is where i'm stuck. The BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC looks good to me, but I've received some feedback suggesting that it's outdated. I did a bit of research into the 9800s and found they were few and far between, but less expensive. PNY and XFX seem to be the only manufactures I can locate. Bit-tech doesn't have any amazing reviews for 9800 technology (unless I've missed them), so I'm a bit lost.

Can somebody please steer me towards a graphics card that is good for gaming and doesn't cost so much money that I'm going to spend the rest of my natural life sleeping in the dog house. :D
    I'd greatly appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks,
    CanadaPhil

Hmm, a ATI 4850 is a great card, it performs extremely well, and is priced very fairly. It's great performance for the price, and you don't need to put a mortgage on your house to afford it.

I would get a 4870 and if you want a high end card, I'd get the 4870x2. The 4870 and 4870x2 use the new gddr5 memory. Note: The 4850 and 4850x2 use the old gddr3.

Get a 4850, it's a perfect match with the rest of your system. Same price as a 9800-series card, but much, much better.

If you are smart, you get a 4850 card that's fitted with a non-standard cooler, or install one yourself. The standard cooler is complete rubbish, noisy, and gets way too hot. Bit-Tech just did a review on Saphire's Toxic 4850, check that out for details.

    I know that

    The 4850 + 4850X2 ( that will come in September ) use DDR3, And 4870 and 4870X2 Use DDR5

    Correct me if I'm wrong!?!!?!

Also if you look in the specs he wrote. HE don't want KICKASS Card. He wants some thing cheap and make him game !

    EDIT :

    EPiRATE He is WRONG!!!!!

AMD Didn't make 4850 DDR5 Because the 4870... SO he is HIGH FOR SURE!!!

I'm really not interested in getting into modifying heat sinks on the graphics card. Does the 4870 have the same issue as the 4850 or are the heat problems resolved with the 4870?

if you dont want to change the heatsink then the 4850 toxic could be the card for you, review on home page

The heat problems are with the 4850 running a stock cooler. There are 4850s coming out now with modified coolers. As heir flick suggested a Sapphire 4850 toxic might be a good option alternatively HIS has an IceQ 4 version of the 4850. You will pay a small premium for the modded cooler though.
