Been about 5-6 years since my last build so I have no spending limit and I just wanna hear inputs on the stuff I have picked out, recommendations, and overall how you think the desktop will perform once I have it built. I am not the most tech savvy person but I want the PC to be fast and get great gaming capabilities. So here is the parts list; Cooler Master Full Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119225 ASUS Sabertooth Z77 Mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131821 Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115095 Thermaltake CPU Cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106150 G. Skill Ripjaws X Series RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231562 RAM Fans http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835236002 EVGA GTX 680 (Either the Normal or Superclocked Signature 2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130768 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130797 Cooler Master 1000W PS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171049 Western Digital 2TB HD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136792 ADATA 120GB SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211588 ASUS Bridge http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320112 OS is just gonna be Windows 7 Pro and the monitor is gonna be my 40" Samsung TV. Any questions ask away. Just curious what some people who are more tech savvy then me might think.
If it was me I would drop the gtx680 and get the gtx 670 nearly same performance but much cheaper also since your going run it on a 40" TV you don't need that much power. Also you won't need 1000w PSU something like a 750w or 850w will do just fine. Change the SSD to Crucial M4 128gb
Notes from me: RT-N66AC Router is out in July - get that to match your bridge, or, at least get the RT-N66U: no use having a crap router and fast card Do you need 32GB of memory? If G.Skill doesn't ship it with a fan - you don't need one. Get an i7-3770K HAF-X is big and nice to work with, but what about Silverstone FT02 or Fractal Design or Corsair? I'm sure others will pipe up about their preferences. It's a shame the US doesn't see SSD prices like the UK now. But if you want an awesome SSD I can fully recommend the Plextor M3 Pro: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820249020 or Crucial M4. Given how much you're spending, get a 256GB model! Corsair AX series 750W PSU. Or something Platinum rated. Good luck finding a GTX 680 for sale! DON'T PUT IT ON A TV. The pixels will be the size of your finger when you sit close! Aim for a 27" 2560x1440 if you want to be blown away. Dell U series are commonly recommended. Maximus V Formula is available within 2 weeks as an alternative to the Sabertooth, if you want to compare the spec. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/Maximus_V_Formula/ http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/SABERTOOTH_Z77/ Keyboard, mouse, headset?
I think it was because he'd alread picked an Asus board, another Asus board was suggested... If he'd have suggested MSI I think I'd have thrown up on the screen. But yes, OP, Bindi has pretty much covered all the bases, follow his advice.
Unless you are planning to sli, a 600w PSU will be more than enough. My sig rig draws 400 - 425w from the wall playing games. That's with a pump, lighting and 7 fans. Going to prime/furmark tonight to see what the wcs is.
That RAM is really expensive and almost no-one will need 32GB right now. 16GB of 1600mhz ram is just as good and way cheaper. Also unless you are into extreme overclocks a fan is not needed, it'll just add noise. Your system will never use more than half the PSU rating you selected. A high quality 600w will be ample and provide better efficiency, especially when your system is idling you dont want it to be using 10% of your PSU rating as its a horribly inefficient way of doing it. Those are the main things that sprang up. The motherboard is a good one but you can get far more value for money. Most of your parts are really only good if you heavily overclock (as in are attempted high scores on benchmarks). Mild OCing doesnt need to cost nearly as much. Also, as said by others, dont use that TV as your main display, the pixel density is just terrible and while movies and gaming will look great on it from the couch, using it as a PC will be lacking.
Thanks everyone for the input. Ill have to look more into the router thing later on, mine is pretty old, but depending on when I make my final purchase I might just get that RT-N66AC. As far as the RAM I mainly said to my self "Would 32gbs hurt?" and as I said above I have no spending limit but I also don't wanna spend 5g's on the build. But here is 4 sets of RAM I have looked at; http://tinyurl.com/c8qb7pl (<--- It's a safe link to newegg) The Sniper Series is the first set I picked out and then kind of jumped some loops and said sure $300.... But in the end I will probably go with this set of RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231489 As far as a fan, it's only $15 and it can't hurt anything. Plus my last build ran really hot and I want to avoid that. On to the Proc. I looked up the i7-3770k. Sounds great, compared 3 of them plus the first one I picked out. http://tinyurl.com/c5gu8lz I want this one; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501 But just another thing New Egg doesn't have in stock I looked at all the cases you mentioned and I still prefer the HAF-X. After reading all the details and the reviews I just can't think of why I should get one of the other ones. I also looked up those SSD's and I really like the sound of the Plextor M3 Pro. So that's what I am gonna get. I did look into the PSU, compared these 4; http://tinyurl.com/c9fvpvj I think I am gonna get this one; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171057 Speaking of the GTX 680 on sale. On New Egg for like 3 days this past week they had a GTX680, signature and signature 2. I would of swiped them up in a heartbeat but I am waiting on the money to fund this build. (Situation; car accident, surgery, suing, receive money this month) Also I am looking at the GTX 690, very expensive yes but I am willing and able. Or maybe SLI 2 680's if I ever get a chance to buy 2....(equivalent of the 690 I guess). I looked at that DELL for a monitor.... thing costs more than my TV. But I myself have always preferred Samsung for TV's and Monitors. My last Samsung 19" monitor was awesome. Plus the 27" Samsung is pretty much 50% cheaper. Comparison; http://tinyurl.com/bmr845y Side note: right now I am running my laptop to my TV via HDMI cable and I think the quality is great. And I really like that Maximus V Mobo, definitely gonna get that one. Now as far as the Keyboard and mouse. I have an old Logitech gaming mouse, 2 of them actually. http://www.kongtechnology.com/images/logitech-mouse.jpg I am getting a new keyboard though; my current Saitek II Eclipse isn't gonna cut it any more as it has been used and abused sadly. Replacing it with this; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823162016 The only thing I don't like is how the back lighting is only on certain points in the keyboard. I did find a Razor that was Mechanical with back lighting but all input is welcome. I demand back lighting mainly because I have moments like right now where I am in my room with my GF sleeping (works 3rd shift) and I can't see my keys in the dark room. Current Headset; http://steelseries.com/us/products/audio/steelseries-5hv2-usb Got it like 3-4 years ago for free and I love this thing. One day I might replace it but for now it is staying with me.
Made a mistake, I actually want 1866 and not the 1600 I have linked you to. http://tinyurl.com/c7omxjq So possibly one of those 5 I will get. Still not sure. I have time to figure it out though.
If OP is buying ASUS already, then I can chime in with some extra info, otherwise it looks like I'd be trying to 'twist someone away' or whatever. Someone else is free to recommend other brands from their experience, never just accept one person's input
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231497 16GB $93, Ripjaws-Z is slightly newer than the X. AX650: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139035&Tpk=AX650 if you're only ever going to use one graphics card. If two, the HX750 or AX750 should do fine. 27" Samsung is only 1920x1080 though, so you might as well buy a 24" at that resolution: you don't get any extra screen space, just size. If you love working on your TV, then continue doing that The Corsair keyboards often come highly recommended for their quality and aluminuim: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823816002 3770Ks will come back into stock periodically - just like the 680s. Get on the waiting list
I have to say, that pixel pitch on a 27" 1080p monitor is not that bad from 1.5ft away. When you look at the average 23/24" 1080p panel, the pixel pitch is 0.27mm compared to a typical 27" 1080p panel with a pixel pitch of 0.31mm. I would stick to a 1080p monitor for now, as next year will be the time to buy a Ultra high resolution monitor, as 4K will become the norm for High end monitors, and so you will be able to pick up a U2711 dirt cheap. With a GTX 670/680 and a 1080p monitor, you will be able to run all your games at 60fps+ maxed out. I'm now sending my 3 monitors back, as they were purchased for the advertised IPS panel, which it does not have. The BenQ EW2750 is my next monitor of choice, as it houses a nice MVA panel with a true 8bit LUT for a great price.
I picked out another set of RAM, different from what you just linked. It sounds nice and I think it's a final decision, opinions? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231539 I will probably go with the AX750 I went back to looking at the Monitors.... Hate the price but a monitor will last me a long time. The $800 Samsung equivalent to the DELL has no HDMI plug in. http://tinyurl.com/dyf4fo6 I know the 3rd one is pricey at $1,200 but the details say it's better than the DELL (Personally hate DELL). So I added it to my cart seeing as how it will be released June 29th.... Still a maybe though with that price tag. That corsair keyboard seems nice, wish it was all black, but whatever.
680 and 3770k is currently out of stock in 90% of places you will have to wait for both id personally buy a dell 27inch moniter if i was heading in the moniter direction otherwise you may as well keep your tv. Psu is overkill as others have mensioned as is the ram as others have mensioned if money is no object where is the SSD ( even a 64gb boot drive beats any mechanical drive ) Big noticeable performance difference in general usage as well
Okay so another day looking over my shopping cart and revising..... I was reading a thread in this section on DVI and HDMI connectors and that made me re-think the monitor situation. So I am gonna go with that DELL U2711 Monitor. I'm sure it will be great. Another part I am planning on getting is a media card reader. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820176023
So I have been looking at heatsinks and fans trying to find ones for the best cooling. I was interested in the Noctua NH-L12 for quietness and cooling but have decided on not getting it. I have had the Thermaltake Frio picked out for awhile. Otherwise I have been looking at the Prolimatech Genisis and the Alpenföhn K2. They both have quite a neat design and from reviews I found did pretty good on cooling, better that the Thermaltake Frio. I can find the Prolimatech Genisis but where can I shop for the Alpenföhn K2?
Okay, so with my build cost reaching the $4,000 range I figure why not go water cooled... I have read a lot of the helpful links on here and talked to Bindi via PM about it some and I don't believe it will hurt. If I go this way I am veering away from the HAF-X and moving onto the TJ11. Basic info of the set-up is the ASUS Maximus V Formula MOBO, Intel i7 3770k Ivy Bridge Proc, and 2 GTX-680's or 1 GTX-690. I was hoping to go with EKWB for the water cooling. What I would really like though is some input on the drainage valve/pipe. Also any tips people can give me or possible set-ups. Also, once again, cost is not of an issue here.
