    I think this is the right place for me to be asking you guys this, isn't it? Idk because its my first day on this site. Anyways I got friends some of them have really good ideas for video games and want to head into the video game biz as much as I would like to. Although I'm trying to be a director of animation, I wouldn't mind if I made a few video games. Some of my friends want to make these types of video games and were looking for software that can make

    graphic adventures
    third person shooter
    first person shooter
    run and shoot{Like earthworm Jim}
    Platform
    Racing
    Beat-em up.

    And as I mentioned above I'm looking for software for making cartoons....Can you guys help me out? I heard good things about Toon Boom Studio but however I want to know if there's other good animation softwares. And good video game softwares....Please mention if I need to require a certain computer and other stuff please.

    Games like unreal tournament 3 and crysis have editors included so that you can make your own levels, This is an easy way 'to have a go'.

    It's the same tool that they built the game with.

    Since games cost millions these days to make modding existing games is a good way to get into it.

    Many people in the biz started making a name for themselves making levels and mods for games.

    well if you are just looking to make simple 2d games and cartoons adobe flash is a good starting point as its mainly a drag and drop interface with some coding (action script). But if you are serious about doing real game development then learn c++ and go play around with something like OGRE 3D (http://www.ogre3d.org/). That is the hard way but its the way that professional game developers do it.

    1. Download Visual Studio Express Edition
    2. Learn C++
    2.5. Learn how to hack assembly
    2.75. You need to know a load of discrete maths (vectors, matrices etc.), some popular algorithms would be good too
    3. Learn OpenGL/DirectX Direct3D
    4. Learn OpenAL/DirectX DirectSound
    5. Buy Maya/Blender
    6. ...
    7. Profit!

    Or yeah, Flash if you want to invest 6 months rather than 6 years.

    Ah, the classic story. Seen this a million times. A group of kids with ideas want to make games. They go to a forum seeking "software" and then they figure out what it takes to make a proper game and disappear.

    You could put together something like a flash game, but reading your post that's obviously not what you're aiming for.
