Needing some new music to listen to, wonder if anyone had any good suggestions?
The music style I like is punk, indie, emo (yes, ok, I'll take the flack for that), Alternative Rock. A few bands I like just to help with suggestions Brigade, Enter Shikari, Angels and Airwaves, Bullet, Funeral for Friend, Taking Back sunday etc
Suggestion don't have to be along those lines, i'll try almost anything! I have some surprsing songs on my ipod....

    anyways, cheers in advanced!

    Alternative stuff, hmmm...

Well a MUST is the smashing pumpkins. A band that got me through my teens quite nicely.

I'm not sure what bands you know so im just going to fire off some must's for your collection:

    The Smashing Pumpkins
    Incubus
    Audioslave
    Tool
    Deftones
    Lodger
    Rage Against The Machine

I guess that should start you off, it's not a genre i listen to a LOT but i'm definatly familiar with my fair share :).

bit of a tangent, but i have similar taste and my housemate recently got me into:

    Patrick Wolf
    Larrikin Love
    Hell is for Heros

    and i'd personally suggest:

    Head Automatica
    Hot Chip

    RwD

This, a bit. If you're going to listen to them the "you drove me to it" EP is the place to start.

The Replacements - mid to late 80s band that are criminally overlooked given the quality of their songs. They started off as a very drunk scuzzy punk band, but included power-pop, folk and classic rock elements as they went along (though they generally stayed very drunk, which may be why they never became famous). I think they played a huge role in shaping what the alt rock sound of the 90s. Check out their song Alex Chilton.

You can grab the best of for the bargain price of £5.78 from Amazon MP3. :D

    mogwai!

    and yeah deftones tbh.

i don't know if it's just me getting old, but new rock music seems to suck ass right now. it seems a lot of love is getting put into electronic stuff and more experimental stuff.

i get most of my new music fixes from podcasts these days. NYUB is an absolute must-listen; it's _incredible_. it's a shame it's not updated very often, but i'll take it over the usual tat. music blogs are great too. check out hypemachine; there's an rss feed floating around too with all the songs that get scraped to it.

check out a Dutch band named Green Lizard.

I'm not sure if they are still around, but their album Autumn must be right up your alley, even though it's about 10 years old by now...

    Cheers

If you like "emo", go listen to some proper stuff.
Funeral Diner, Circle Takes The Square, I Would Set Myself on Fire for You, The Gloria Record.

Some good suggestions so far, i Shall be trying them out over the next week or so!

Liked the suggestion of deftones, rage etc, but already got em on my ipod! seen rage at T in the park last year, absolutely amazing.

I have heard good things about hell is for heroes, also scary kids scarring kids, quite liked a few of there songs.

As for Proper "emo" as you call it, I have heard some of funeral diner, and i would set myself on fire for you, pretty good.

    keep the suggestions coming!

Who ever said Smashing Pumpkins, right on. Only the first three albums are really worth going for tbh.

You really should, it's some more upbeat stuff (they officially class themselves as 'american gothic'). I was lucky enough to see them live at the o2 for the reformed tour, absolutely amazing! I got into the band about two years before they split up (in '99) and didn't get a chance to see them back then :(. But yeah i would say Zeitgeist is comparable to Gish moreso than the other albums.

Seriously, contrary to the above, I'd give Ziet- a miss.

Smashing Pumpkins: Siamese Dream > Mellon Collie > Gish > all the other stuff, TBH. Although the single on Zeitgeist was OK, it's just a Billy Corgan ego project these days.

At The Drive In are worth a look - Relationship of Command is a fantastically fierce album.
