Hello all I am looking to go with an AMD 64, I want to know what is the best chipset and motherboard to go with, KT800 or NForce 3. I am not looking for future expandability because the technology changes fast. I will need a new mobo by the time the proc is outdated (Multiproc Chips). I am gonna get a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ proc. I appreciate any thoughts.
Here is a good read. http://www.sharkyextreme.com/guides/MHGSBG/article.php/10707_3415901__3 http://arstechnica.com/guide/system/hotrod.html I am waiting for the Nforce SLI boards Matt
Best to work out if you are going for Socket 754 or for 939. If 754 I would say the DFI board: DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb (Socket 754) Motherboard These are sold in most placed for under £80 If 939 I would wait a week or two a grab an nForce 4, my money is on Gigabyte getting to stock to resellers first: Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9 nVidia nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) However the estimated retail price on this is £140-£150 so its a heavy investment.
Thanks for the replies, I think that I am going with a socket 754 because next yeaar I will want a multiproc and I will get a new mobo with that. Does the DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb run pretty cool I have heard that different boards run hot with the 64s.
If you don't want to get stuck with a CPU that will be very hard to couple with a new mobo in the future I would suggest a 939 pin as the support for this socket will last far longer than 754 pin.
Also NF3 dont like punkbuster, ive had a hell of a time with game`s,gone over to ASUS now and np @ all.
