    Hello all,
First time to post and first time to build a PC. I've been researching my first PC and browsing forums on advice, tips, etc...

    My components:
    -ASUS P5E3 Deluxe
    -Quad 6600
    -Thermalright 120 extreme

My question revolves around how tight the CPU cooler should be on the processor. I've attached the 120 to the mobo and have tightened the spring loaded screws as tight as they'll go. However, the cooler will slide around on the top of the CPU when I grab the top the cooler and gently twist. I can hold the mobo upright, similiar to how it will be once in the case and it does not appear that the CPU cooler will slide down.

That said, I find it difficult to believe that the cooler would slide at all, even with me applying a slight amount of pressure to the top of the cooler.

So is this normal? Do CPU coolers have some play in how tight they are mated to the CPU?

Thanks in advance for the assist.
    J

Small washers around the base of the screw or inbetween the spring and the screw head.
Some heatsinks may have a bit of a wobble, but you don't want them to tight. My OCZ bends my board more then a little and it scares me. As long as you have even firm pressure it shouldnt be to bad.

    washers solves this problem easily.

i used 2 washers per screw and my cooler is rock solid. i can lift the whole motherobard (excluding graphics card) up by just holding the cooler. not a single slight movement.

I know what you mean - I have the same thing.

It's not wobbling, but sliding as you say.

I have no problems, so it's propably meant to be like that.
