I bought an Aspire One D260 about 18 months ago. It has a seperate partition for Android, which I never activated. Now there are some useful apps I'd like to install and I find that I can't install Android at all. When I start up the netbook I get the pop-up box saying Android is ready to be installed, but when I click on 'Install' the box disappears and nothing happens. The Android partition is completely devoid of any data and I didn't receive any seperate software with the package. Is there any way I can download android to install it myself? TiA JD
have you tried here its not aspire one specific, but it may be a start, oops it's a live cd, so no installation required the source code is avalable here
Thanks Rich - I will check out the LiveCD (as I don't know what the spiel is - never heard of them before but seems plenty of info there), but as for the source code, well, do I look like a geek? I'll try and adapt liveandroid for my needs (off a USB stick).
Just to give a heads-up to anyone else with a similar issue - I sorted this quite easily. I couldn't install the live android that Rich linked to above, because I couldn't tell which partition was which on the installer's naming convention. Just before Chrimbo, my less than 2 year-old Hitachi hard drive went bottom-up with no warning (130GB of documents and videos lost!) so I bought a new one from dabs. Just a note on that - the Seagate Momentus 250GB was only £37 (incl 98p delivery) - I ordered it on Christmas Eve and it came today - that's hellish quick service for 98p! Anyway, I actually used the live android CD to partition and format the new drive. It then installed android for me and did all the necessaries. It also enabled a dual-boot option on start-up so I could boot to android or windows. Unfortunately, though, Win7 has binned that and starts automatically with no options - so I may have to install android again. Point being it works and works well. Thanks Rich, me ole china - you starred again!
Well, I got blocked from Steam, Rich, after I changed my email and forgot to do it in my profile - that was 18 months ago and Steam (so-called)support have ignored my requests for assistance, and the clan forum seems dead as a Dodo - I'll pop along later to see what's up. Nice to see you still active as ever here, though Right - I have indeed had to reinstall android in order to get the dual-boot option back again, but it was no hassle. So I'd suggest Windows first, then android (I made a 5 Gig partition for android which is plenty - Acer normally give 4GB) from a portable CD drive or USB stick. This app will let you write the android iso to a USB stick: http://sourceforge.net/projects/unetbootin/?source=dlp and I also just found an android installer specifically written for Acer machines - including the Aspire One: http://www.ceh-photo.de/blog/?p=562 Main issue so far has just been that it won't recognise the WiFi adapter, but apparently using a cable is okay. Aside from that, works very nicely
Wondered why I hadn't seen you on steam, multiplay closed the website, saying I hadn't paid, but a couple of months before said I had paid an was up to date, but I was told by another multiplay support tech that they had closed all of the webhosting down, I offered to pay anything owed and they said, sorry its all been deleted. To which I said if that's the case there won't be any further business from us. Spoke to Jim, he said just leave it closed so I have. Very few peeps came on anyway. If anyone wants an un-official cpc clan website/ forum again, I can host it for free on one of my servers.
