Gosh, don't all rush to share your feelings...

I for one thing Commentaries are a good idea - I always listen to the Director's Commentary on DVDs (having watched the film first), and there is often all sorts of things you can learn.

However, I hope the Lost Coast commentary is some very compact MP3s or something - my Half Life 2 directory is already 5.5GB or something ridiculous, and I'm only likely to listen to the commentary once. So while it is a good idea, I would prefer if it was a DVD optional extra, rather than have it bloat the Lost Coast download (already likely to be sizable) and then fill my hard drive :(

Commentary is certantly an interesting thing. It will get me to play through the mission an extra time.

Valve has some major issues with their release dates though. "Finishing touches" and "a few more weeks" with them usually means it is another year in the making, and that is really starting to annoy me.

Yeah, agreed on all points. Commentary is a good idea, I think. But, on the other hand, it's interesting all of once or twice. Should be an easily-deleted "extra."

As for release dates, yeah...I'm really starting to think of the "phantom" console whenever I see my Steam news. :)

And pope, remember...you're in a totally different time zone out there. If I rush on here to post at 5:20am (when you first posted this story), I'd need my head examined! :)

    TBH, they're constantly in a lose-lose situation:

    1) Keep schtum = lose
    2) Try and keep people updated, but have to backtrack when slippage occurs = lose
    3) Release "early" with bugs = lose

I'm in weekly contact with the lads at Valve, and it's probably frustrating them as much as it is us. But nobody will tolerate a buggy release, so it's important to be patient.

I'm an optimist, so I have confidence in this latest "release date" ;)

Hehe...you go on being optimistic, buddy. :) Murphy was an optimist, too.

Personally, I'm sure I'll be impressed. And I'm sure it's frustrating to the devs, too. But why so much delay?
