It's different to the beta that I had - few more bad guys which made it a little more interesting. :)

    The HDR is amazing :eeek:

Pity it's so short, I was looking forward to going to the feast with the fisherman dude at the end :waah:

It is a pity it's so short, but at least it's something new to play. I love the lighting in the church thing after the windows have been shot out.

Yeah, that was my favourite bit. It looks so great with the light blooming in and the stained-glass effect is pretty amazing too.

    W00t! That was fun!
Weirdly, I got a higher framerate in Lost Coast than I did in the coastal part of the original Half Life 2! (It ran fine on full settings @1280x1024 so I'm not complaining! ;))

Correct me if i'm wrong but I believe valve implemented hdr w/ SM 2. So you should have no problem experiencing the hdr effects.

The maps in the original HL2 are not designed for HDR, which is why there is a large performance hit on this when compared to enabling it in HL2 (which does pretty much nothing).

i was dissapointed with the length, but then again this isn't supposed to be an expansion, its just valve saying:

'look what we could do if we didn't have to think of people with low range graphics cards'

    still...looked sweet on la 7800GTX :p

Yeh but not everyone can afford a top notch rig, and that shouldn't mean that they aren't able to play good games. :waah:

I just grabbed a load of screens on 2x7800 GTX Extreme in SLI (490/1300)

1600x1200 8xS TSS AA 16xAF Max Details - not quite smooth (drops in to the low 20's a lot, but I did it for the sake of screens rather than playability). 4xTSS AA 16xAF is 40fps+ all the time.

    Click for full size...

You can see the more subtle touch of HDR in that second screenshot. Playing without it makes things seem really flat now :(

yeah, the second and fifth screens show how much more dreamy it makes the game look. There's no lack of detail in the mid-tones it looks as stunning on a 6600 DDR2 though, IMHO.

My favourite shot is number 8 though, the textures are just amazing.

Is it just me or was that actually harder than the rest of the game, maybe it was my PowerPoint fps... so valve you actually meant 1 GB ram was a requirement not a recommendation, ahhh. :wallbash:

Oh i got to the town, i fell into the water and got to the beach on the same side as the path with five health left, there are little fish in the water that attack you, not nice. The town is hollow you can see right through from the other side, its a bit like a holywood sound stage, big wild west street but nowt behind it. I should have taken screenies sorry.

i find it hard to believe that people had difficulty getting through this...

anyway, kinda pointless me downloading since my gfx card doesn't support hdr, but i was entitled to it i suppose.
