A neighbour of mine has lost their password on vista. As they are the admin I can't run any new program from their computer without it asking for the password. I have tried downloading software demos, but nothing has worked even on my own computer. Has anyone got some guidance for me on this. They would greatly appreciate having their computer working propely again as they've not been able to use it properly for months. thanks Gareth
do they have the vista recovery disc? I know that a lot of computers don't ship with them now for copyright purposes etc, but if you have it then you can boot from it, then use the recovery console to reset it Gaz
Bam! Use the LiveCD/DVD version with the largest rainbow table you can download (unless the password is likely to be simple).
No, don't. It's easy to recover the password when Windows is offline (eg. using a live cd). Basically with rainbow tables you can reveal the password, but it's also possible to reset it. In this case it's totally OK but in some cases it wouldn't be. Try this for example: http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm
