first of all, he does bear a ring, but not one of the rings of power second of all, he's not an elf, he's an Ainur third of all, he says he's leaving because he's done what's needed to be done have you even read ANY of the books??
Bear in mind that The Silmarillion was never meant to be released.... ...And there are a lot of things which, when cross-referenced to the novels are....****ed up. *n
...."rings of power"?...if you mean the ring of power then i agree...but he did bear the 3rd elven ring...if that's not one of the "rings of power" (going with the idea that all 21 rings were rings of power), then i don't know what is... Right. He'd done what he'd been sent to do, along with the other wizards, though, i wonder what of the other 3 wizards...(just me thinking out loud, if anyone knows, do tell)
Other four you mean? Saruman, Gandalf, Radagast, Alatar and Pallando. Saruman is killed. Gandalf leaves with the elves. It's not mentioned what happens to Radagast. Alatar and Pallando - the Blue Wizards. They, along with Radagast were the first three to arrive on Middle Earth. Alatar, Pallando and Saruman travelled to the east and only Saruman returned...It's kinda hinted that they stayed in the eastern regions when Saruman returned and set up cults and so on... *n
no i meant 3....accounted for saruman...i just wonder what the blue wizards(dunno where you got their names) and radagast went or did. Because if Gandalf left because his job was done, wasn't theirs' done as well?
no it would be the RINGS of power - the one ruling ring, the 3 eleven rings, etc. are all collectively the RINGS of power. and you're right - he did bear one of the elven rings, but only because it's original owner, Círdan, an elf, met the Wizards when they arrived in Middle-earth, and he thought that Gandalf was the wisest of them, so he gave him the Red Ring (named Narya) to bear in secret. so he's not an elf - he just received an elven ring from one. though i do see what you were thinking (had me confused too) and as for the other wizards' jobs being done, i'm not sure - haven't read enough to know what they're purpose was/is in the first place as far as why they came to earth/arda/ea anyways...
sorry, thought he was akin to an elf in man's clothing...got confused when i read somewhere that he was from the West...but now things are more clear.
just got this from the encyclopedia of arda... ...so...they had all completed their intended mission...so i still wonder why alatar, pallando, and radagast never went back...
Saw this the other day and loved it. It was such a good end to the series, didn't even notice the time i was sat, only that when it finished I seem to untense all my back muscles where I was constantly sitting on edge through the last part of it. I don't think the ending was drawn out, I think it was good how they stuck to tolkiens ideas and it was nice to see how everyone reacted and when back to their lives after the war. I love it....can't wait for the DVD and I am pulling out my copy of LotR again to read, and I must finally sit down and read The Silmarillion
