My girlfriend does the same thing with her laptop, really kinda worries me with the pounding on the poor thing, seems like she is going to send the keys into the logic board

tbh, I found the Apple Keyboard (new one silver with white keys) are nice to use, not sure about prolonged use (programming or journalism) but it's damn quiet.

Typing on a real spring keyboard is as elegant as driving on a cobble stone road with a bicycle at 50 km/h. Nevertheless the sense of satisfaction is irreplaceable :D

As for wearing off the letters on the keys, I have been using the keyboard on my main system for over 6 years now and there's not even a hint of anything wearing off, whereas my housemate's Logitech keyboard is missing part of some letters already after just a few years :eeek:

I'm guilty of being a loud typist also. Learned to type on a old style keyboard. If I don't hear anything it doesn't feel right. Anyway, if you think 1 loud typist is bad, you need to hear my programming module lab. 30+ people hammering away on really loud keyboards.

Gets worse during practical exams since there WILL be people slamming heads into keyboards...

Actually there's just a rubber membrane and a ribbon board under the keys. The PCB with the microcontroller on it is located near the top, wherever the numlock, scroll lock and caps lock LEDs are ;)

I do, but not because you use an IBM keyboard. Because you typed "ibm" "ud" and "to" on it, and also didn't bother to type "." at the end.

Same with Cherry, characters are lasered into the material, springs are metal coil springs, lasts forever. :D

one thing that drives me nuts is the scrollwheel. especially the old "dry ones", which sound like ripping velcro when you scroll fast.

at work we fill alot of reports... alot. all of them are 100+ pages each.
i always remove the spring that makes this godawful sound on my mouses (or is it mice?), however my collegues don't.
a typical day at work; from the neighbouring office comes the dreadful sound:
*scrrrrch* ... gaah... *scrrch* .. aw come on! *scrrrrrrrrch* ... dude, seriously stop scrolling
*scrrrrch* .. wth! *scrrrrrrrrch* f*ck you. after about one hour of torture comes my favourite part, the f*cker forgot something at the top of the document!
*SCRRRRRCH SCRRRRRCH SCRRRRRRRCH SCRRRRRRRRCH SCRRRRRRRCH SCRRRRRRRRRCH SCRRRRR f*cking RRRRRRCH*
at this point i usually jump out the window.

i'm gonna ninja-mod his scrollwheel when he's away. a swift operation which should take 2 minutes.

Annoys me when people in the quiet carriage on the train get out their laptop and start bashing the keys, or using a blackberry with that stupid clicking wheel.

They should have Bond-style ejector seats in the quiet carriages so when someone starts making loads of noise they can be voted off the train. :D

    .... typists?

Also an ergo 4k user - but the office i'm in is pretty loud so it's ok! I've also mastered the art of pressing it quietly by always resting my thumb on it.

So despite oozing sarcasm above, I have to admit that my Saitek Eclipse (v1, old model) keyboards are pretty loud when you're just pressing the keys, and I don't hammer them. I wouldn't want to type on anything else though. The key spacing, layout, tactile feedback etc is just right and I've been typing on these boards for about 5 years now and they're still going strong. I have 3.

I can't hear you over the sound of how loud I type on my model M.

I'm away from home, I miss it... I use a basic logitech, and it's not the same. My typing speed and typos are greater here.

I love stumbling upon an old IBM keyboard. I'll type out words like 'execute', 'activate', and 'engage' on them cause it makes me feel like a scientist inputting codes into the rocket ship destined to Alpha Centauri... :geek:

Also I could type on those loud clickers all day. Being in the same room with someone else using it is just unacceptable... lol
