ok i am helpign a charity out & they have a old hp laserjet 4 that is alwasy jamming up with paper when it reaches the rollers for it to spit the paper out (every print gauranteed) then when youpull it out & it restarts the bottom of the other pages it prints are creased to hell & back any ideas for fix's as they cant afford a new printer
Try replacing the fuser - its behind the door on the back held in by two screws and should have a yellow "hot temperatures" warning stripe on it. They aren't too cheap to replace, but if the printer is in good shape, its not a bad investment. You can sorta tell if the fuser might be bad if it looks a bit "burnt" once you take it out and inspect it.. Another thing to inspect is a little plastic peice that has a rubber tread on it wrapped around that plastic part. It's in the front door, (I think) on the right and easily pops off by pinching the little rod on the end and sliding it off. Sometimes that rubber tread thing wears off and needs replacing, which can sometimes be the reason for paper jams. I'm letting a friend borrow my digital camera, so sorry I can't take any pictures for ya at the moment.
Try using the printer in manual feed mode to rule out any problems in the paper tray. Jamming is normally caused by: feed problems from the paper tray fuser sticking paper path sensor Check the paper sensors. These are black plastic levers that project into the paper path, and block/unblock an optical sensor. I think the LJ4 has 2, one in the fuser and one in the front. Also check the separator fingers on the fuser- little spring loaded levers that rest against the hot roller. Cheers
