I've got a 17" Mac Book Pro I'm trying to help someone out with, the back (where the vents are and the hinge for the monitor) get uncomfortably hot. Any tips on cooling this guy down a little?

It was purchased in 2006, so I'm assuming he can just buy Apple Care and have them fix it, but I've heard rumor Apple's solution is "It is a Notebook, not a Laptop, and therefore is not intended for use on your lap", but that could just be some disgruntled Apple users that didn't get their way.

Any tips? I'm comfortable taking things apart, but I'd rather hold off on replacing the thermal grease as a last resort.
