Is there anyway (hopefully linear will read this) that I can take the power supplied by usb and power a bunch of leds for inside the keyboard? this would be a cool lighting affect for the nice mac keyboard I am going to grab.
okay now can you power a bunch of leds of one port and do they stay as bright as if you were jus to use one? and how exacty did you do this? also what does your keyboard look like put together I have the same keyboard in right now.
Bah, you people and your LEDs. If I put LEDs in my keyboard it would drain the batteries really quick. :dude:
ooook. the sad part is that i spent hours working on this :] The mac pro keyboard runs of of an alcor micro programmable keyboard controller chip (64 pins in 1cm square package. tiny). Datasheet here . This datasheet gives the pinouts of the chip. It allows up to 4 LEDs, but the pro keyboard only uses 2. You can grab voltage off of these pins (iirc its 4.6v btw, and the usb voltage the keyboard grabs is 4.7v). the 2 green leds get somewhere around 1.91v, even though the pins output 4.6v. They use some form of "lay on top" type contact resistor made out of rubber. Worked fine for my 20mA 3.7V 1000mcd White LEDs (part number CMD204UWC). Be warned though, that the LEDs that the keyboard uses are flattened on the top and bottom, and are just shy of 3mm. I had to drill and file for the the 3mm whites to fit (looks good, don't have pics, sorry). I grabbed all this info while doing my eject mod. Long story short: I ripped a trace out of the board by accident and am in the process of fixing my precious keyboard. So, to you fellow mac modders, i wish you goodluck :]
Het DETN8R, is that a new addition to your case? I don't remember that at the lan... BTW, who won that case contest?
I won the last 2 case mod competitions at EverLAN No, Ive had this keyboard for awhile now. Gonna be at the next lan shadowspawn?
I haven't decided yet. I would like too...but I always come away feeling like I wasted my weekend. I've a family of 5, so it takes away from them as well. 'tis a shame you're judging the case contest...I wanted to be the one to take the title away from you with the case Im building right now. Oh well.
