Apple's entry level pc, the Mini Mac has been revealed....

    Apple's Site

im really liking it, it'll be interesting to see how well it performs but at about £369 (i think the BBC quoted that figure) it seems pretty nice...

it's 6.5"x6.5"x2" so quite abit smaller than any mini-itx solution. My friend just ordered one and I will once I sell some junk to raise the $500.

Modding plans already underway  ... Thinking about black reanodized aluminum shell and the top painted some nice color (or replace with clear plexi). OC it to around 1.5Ghz and use it as a kickass HTPC/emulation console.

If I didn't dislike macs (not for being macs, I don't like how the OS "feels") I'd get one to replace my EPIA. That and if I had a spare $500.

Who said anything about having to run Mac OS X? It'll run any PPC Linux/BSD distro just fine.

I might actually get one this summer, along with another 17" Samsung Syncmaster LCD ...and have mac on one screen, PC on the other :)

If I actually do, and find that it has an aluminum shell, I might seriously polish it and make it nice and shiny... mmm.

    Free Mini Mac

I plan on taking one of these and integrating it into an HTPC, as I think Macs do a bit better with media than WindowsOS, but that might just be my own personal opinion, I have no data to back that up. Reminds me of the Cubits that I saw over at mini-itx.com, wonder if Apple got their inspiriation from somewhere outside of their own design department? Who knows. Anyway...
I know that these kind of offers are all over the place, but with a little work they can be abused for free stuff. I've participated in Free iPod programs, and this is run by the same company. Ten referrals, free mac mini. Simple as that. I tell people to sign up for Netflix of Blockbuster, take the free three movies, cancel after five days so you get credit for signing up with those companies then cancel before the two week trial period is up. Heres the link: www.bit-tech.net .

Actually I thought it was just a small hamburger. You know, "a little snack for the working man/woman on the go". :p

It is external. It's a small white (of course) oblong box. If you visit the Apple site and go for the Quicktime 360 degree tour, you can see it clearly. :thumb:

    Useful as a HTPC?

Upside - Apple already do a matching remote and DVI to S-video/Composite convertor for it.

Downside - The need for an external USB surround sound card.

VLC (Video Lan Client) and MPlayer are probably the best ones. I still haven't found a movie file that VLC doesn't play perfectly. Then again if you plan to use it as a pure HTPC why not use one of the HTPC linux distros instead of Mac OS X?

Then again I bet there will be tons of 3rd party HTPC software coming out for Mac OS X in the next few months.
