Sooooo I bought an external hard drive to put my Seagate 300gb S-ATA HD in. Everything worked fine, then.... well, long story short, I had to have the enclosure replaced. Now my Macbook won't detect the external HD, but my Windows machine has no problem reading it.

Any time it's plugged it (either to firewire or usb - it can do both), System Profiler and/or Disk Utility freezes up.

Any ideas? I'm stumped. Google searches haven't helped much.

The HD has to be in the FAT32 or FAT16 format to be read by Macs, if it's in NTSC, it won't work.

Yeah, it's FAT32. And of course, after a month of this thing not working and less than a day after trying to get help by posting here, it decides to work for absolutely no reason at all.

Before both system profiler and disk utility would freeze up when the drive was connected. Now everything's working beautifully. *sigh* Whatever! :wallbash: It's working, so I'm happy! Thanks anyways guys

Glad it worked out for you. And, just for reference, Mac OS X can *read* NTFS perfectly, just not write to it. Which would make for an awfully useless external drive, but I just hate the spread of misinformation ;)

Gotta love it when technology does that.. One week it won't work, the next it's back to normal and acts as if nothing ever happened :hehe:
