Apple Macbook or Macbook Pro

    I've never had the mbp burn my leg, but I suppose I don't wear shorts too often!

    I find the range on my mbp is great. I've never had a problem with it ever. It often finds signals a lot of my clients laptops can't see.

    the UK has only just got the refurb and clearance sites themselves (i had always been jealous of the US site for this!)

    Listen to that, as it's an excellent podcast episode on just this subject.

    Given what you mentioned you plan to do, I think a normal MB (and a major RAM upgrade from a third party as Apple overcharges to hell) will be fine unless you're using Apple's Pro apps (IIRC, they said that the iLife apps don't use the video card for video editing). The Macbooks are definitely more portable and have better battery life, and in my experience run quite a bit cooler. The integrated graphics won't be a problem any time soon - when apps really start using the Core Video/Animation stuff in Leopard you might see more a difference (Pixelmator for example, though not Photoshop for some time).
