I've just bought a refurb MB P, unfortunately with the 160Gb HDD so I'll def. need to upgrade. I was thinking about getting this drive:http://www.alternate.de/html/product/Festplatten_2,5_Zoll_SATA/Hitachi/HTS545050B9A300_500_GB/330450/?cmd=showRatings&show=4#tabberBox Price is great but almost makes me suspicious. Any comments on the drive or other recomendations? Thanks in advance!
the price is ok mate. i'm not sure about the size. you should check that. those 500gb disks have the tendency to be a bit bigger.
If it's the same as this one (which it appears to be, the model and manufacturer's numbers are the same) then no, it won't do. It's 12.5mm tall, and the new MBP's won't accept anything over 9.5mm. It's a nice price, but it's not going to fit. The largest-capacity 9.5mm drive I can find is this WD 640GB Scorpio Blue, though that's at a leisurely 5400rpm. If you need something a bit speedier and are willing to drop back down to 500GB, the fastest I can find is this Seagate Momentus at 7200rpm.
Well this datasheet says it's hight is 9.5mm so it should fit: http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/FFA370A7BF845F87862574FE0003054C/$file/TS5K500B_DS_final.pdf I think I'll just give it a go and send it back if it doesn't fit
Ah - sorted. My German's not so good, but I think the one I linked is the 5K500 and yours is the 5K500.B - yours should fit
