    Hi all,

My 12" Powerbook is getting a day older and I've been thinking about getting a new Mac as main computer. Since I could never sell my beloved Powerbook, I will keep it for smaller 'on the go' tasks like surfing the net, emailing and watching movies/episodes.

After some websearching I've "limited" my choice to these:
    13" MacBook
    [2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo; 2GB 667 DDR2; 160GB SATA; Superdrive DL; Bluetooth+Airport Extreme]
    24" iMac
    [2,16 Ghz Intel Core Duo 2; 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM; NVidea Gefore 7300GT; 250GB SATA; 8x DL Superdrive; Airport Extreme+Bluetooth 2.0]
    15" MacBook Pro
    [2,16 Ghz Intel Core Duo 2; 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2; ATI Radeon X1600; 160GB SATA; 6x DL Superdrive; Airport Extreme+Bluetooth 2.0]

The MacBook fits all the reasons to why I bought my Powerbook. [Cute, Powerfull and Portable, Screen spanning] I'm keeping my Powerbook though, so I'm more on the look for an addition then a replacement. I've fallen in love with the Powerbook's build quality and I'm scared that the MacBook will dissapoint me.

A 24" iMac seems like the perfect desktop computer for me. Coupled with my 20" widescreen it will give my neck a good workout. And I'd still have my Powerbook for when I need it.

For that same budget though, I could get a MacBook Pro with roughly the same specs. The MacBookPro gives me extra options for the future. My Powerbook could break down, or I could need the extra performance/screensize on location (work, whatever).

Are there many difference between the iMac and the MacBook Pro ? (besides the screen, offcours)
Wich would you choose? And why? Wich do you think I should choose, and why?
Is there anything I should change on my Specs?
    Are there any other suggestions?

Thanks very much for all usefull info/insights/opinions.
    Michiel

    Current computer setup:
    12" Powerbook [768MB RAM; 80GB HD; Superdrive]
    20" Widescreen Dell screen
    2x 500GB MyBook External HD's

pretty much none outside of drives & screen

logic board is obviously larger, but features/performance wise, they're the same

Thanks for the reply. So they really do have the same specs for the same price. Since I've got plenty of external storage, it really comes down to the Screen/Portable.
    - 12" + 17" Desktop / 24" + 20" Desktop / 12" Portable
    - 12" + 17" Desktop / 15" + 20" Desktop / 15" Portable / 12" Portable

Right now, I would go for the 24" iMac. But who knows what the near future will bring. Portability of your work-horse is always a great option to have.

Damn this is a hard choice.

How do you like your MBP ?

I personally would sell the powerbook and go for a macbook pro. It will do everything you need and then it would just be one machine.

If you really want to machines the iMac is a good choice, personally I don't like the idea of integrated monitors so I would look at a mini prehaps?

Having had both a mbp and the 12in powerbook, once you've owned a mbp the powerbook is simply too small. Mine is now used by my dad and I still use it from time to time. The intel mac performance is also so far ahead, selling the pb now you might get some money for it, in a couple of years it will be worth a lot less.

Hi Gordy, Thanks for your reply.

I am leaning indeed leaning towards the MBP. Not because of the integrated monitor, but because the MBP has roughly the same specs for the same price. So why not?! Portability will always come in handy.

I will not, however, sell my precious 12". I don't even think they are worth alot anymore.. with MacBooks starting just shy over 1000euro. Even if I don't find a use for it, I'm sure I will regret it if I sell it.

    Thanks for the advice.

Yeah they are soo cute they are hard to let go. I get to see it regularly so that keeps me happy. :D

If I was in your position I would try to get a refurb macbook pro. I don't know what the belgian refurb section is like but the UK one has some great deals. Add that to the chance of getting some free upgrades on some of the refurbs. :D I've bought two refurb mini's one came with double the ram I was expecting. Both going very well and looked brand new.
