Those crazy koreans have dont it again. Not content with having a measly 50m range for a wireless footprint they've built what effectivly looks like a booster unit into a router to get a claimed range of 1km!

    WIFI-madness

But surly this wouldnt be legal in the UK would it? OR do you think that rural communuties could get one of these, blast it out and let their residents connect to it for faster internet?

Its a draft 11n standard by the looks so should be nice and quick. latancy might be crap tho.

EDIT:: got to love the wireless router in a brief case, and its got to be powerful computing wise as its got some PCI slots!

Well legality would definately be a problems as in the UK the effective radiated power limit is 100mW/20dBi which is always going to limit your range. There are also already long range wireless technologies that don't even require LOS and can work at high speed for rural communities - try looking up WIMAX.

mind you 1KM with wifi is easy if you use a directional attenae!

without an external antenna that is impressive

but it is quite easy to get 1 km range

http://unleet.com/d/383-1/wardrvasphull3.png linked because its a large pic

btw setup was an 12 dbi omni antenna + a 30mW dlink ap

other pics if you want them http://unleet.com/v/Tacsstuff/wardrive/maps/

from the red dot to the top left corner of the light red shape is about 4.5km

and that is measuring it from a laptop sitting in the front right passenger seat :)
