    Hi folks,

    I'm a non WASD kinda guy. I know that may be strange but for the past 18 years I've used RMB for forward, left ALT for backwards, Q for let and W for right.

    So, I bought Mafia II in the Steam sale and now would like to play it, however it doesn't seem to let me use my preferred key assignments.

    Am I being thick or have I missed something simple? Or is there a WASD conspiracy with Mafia II?
    Mafia I let me use my weirdy key choices just fine.

    :)

    Cleggy.

    What do you bind things to that are normally RMB?
    Like scoping?

    No, you're not being thick at all - Mafia II will not let you bind all keys the way you want.

    This is just plain bad, lazy design. It is quite ridiculous for a 2010 game to behave this way.

    I spent ages exchanging emails with support guys in the UK & Czech Republic, and the best they could suggest was to use an app called Mouse Raider, which is downloaded free off the net.

    I'll try to explain how it works, but the keys I'm talking about are just an example as this is off the top of my head.

    Say Mafia II won't recognise right click, but the function you're trying to change to right click is already mapped in the game to the Q key.

    So you now open Mouse Raider and link right click to the Q key.

    Then when you're playing the game you click the right mouse button, Mouse Raider converts it into the Q key, and Mafia II carries out the command.

    You can turn Mouse Raider on and off with selectable F keys, eg F12, so when you've finished playing the game everything is back to normal.

    I have used this and it does work, but I actually found it easier to just give up on keyboard and mouse and use an Xbox 360 USB controller.

    Shooting is a bit of a pig with the 360, but you do get used to it, and the default 360 controller mappings are quite sensible.

    Try both and see which you prefer.

    It took me a day or more to get used to the 360 pad though, so you may need to persist if you go this route!

    Thanks for the feedback guys, Mike, rep for you sir, I'll check Mouse Raider over the weekend.

    Scoping/zooming sits on the middle mouse button (of course!). Grenades are the "G" key (duh!)
    What else; here goes...

    TAB = Use/open
    E = lean left
    R = lean right
    T = reload
    Left shift = run
    Left ctrl = walk
    C = crouch
    V = prone
    X = bullet time/special 1
    Z = special 2
    M = map
    F = flashbang or "non lethal" grenade (or stone in Far Cry 1)

    Welcome to my world!
    :)

    I know it seems lame but it's hard to break an 18 year habit. And when I started gaming Wolf 3D was the only FPS! I have a 360 controller and use if for things like Just Cause 2 and GTAIV strangely, however I can't use it in Mafia II as I cut my teeth on mouse/kb in Mafia I.

    Mafia II is the first game I can remember that's not let me honour the "Cleggy key combo" (TM), so shame on Czech2k or whatever they're called.
