Do they have enough magnetic force to damage a motherboard?
I am having a problem getting my hand in to a couple of screws on my board and one of these things would come in very handy if I thought I could get away with using one. What is the general consensus on this?

    Thanks, Cus

I've used magnetic screw driver for the last 8 years and nothing has gone wrong so far. I'm now very much upset as my favorite screw driver has forgot it's supposed to be magnetic and no longer keeps the screws up.

Rub a strong (neodymium/rare earth, preferably) magnet along it, in one direction only.

This ^^ make sure you do larger arm loops so the induced magnetic field puts all the little iron/chrome cores in one direction only :)

Yeah I've meant to do that for ages, but it's not like I would stop building the rig just because the magnet tip doesn't work, and after that I always just forget about it :) Might get it done now, though ->

Yeah I used a magnet taken from a HDD and it worked just fine. There are also tools for magnetizing and demagnetizing tools, but dunno if they work any better.

I've been using a long one for years, I'd be lost without it...
