ADSGuide has a report on an emerging major service outage on the BT Wholesale network:

Reports are emerging of a Major Service Outage (MSO) affecting a number of service providers. The problem appears to be affecting the BT Wholesale RAS (login) servers, which means that people will experience problems trying to connect to the ADSL service.

Therefore you are advised to NOT disconnect your ADSL if it is currently working, in case you cannot reconnect.

Update: BT Wholesale has issued a briefing on the latest outbreak of worm viruses, specifically NACHI, BLASTER-D & WELCHIA. Apparently the volume of traffic these worms are generating is resulting in a general slowdown.

My NTL cable gets slow in the evenings recently. Apparently it's due to people constantly reverse DNSing the IP addresses that try to attack them through port 135 (the port used by blaster) and at busy times causes loads on their DNS servers. Also a few DNS servers went down too but at least we haven't been completely disconnected.
