Part of a problem that doesn't even exist?

Get fitter walking to school? 15 minutes is basically useless in getting fit for people who walk everyday and exercise. And even if children walk, all my lil bro's mates eat nothing but ****, microwave meals or ****ing chips and pizza everyday, if there is a problem it's parents feeding **** to their children, my bro has a mate who eats chips and pizza everyday, nothing more, nothing less, he doesn't go on school trips or holidays because they don't serve chips and pizza, and your moaning about a silly walk. I was shocked at what people eat for their dinner here in the thread, but disgusting because he doesn't walk? heh, please.

Back on topic, my bro walks back from school, but not to school, it's a hell of a lot easier for a parent to get their child in the car, it takes about 2 minutes drive to get him there, and if any shopping is needed, it'll be done on the way back down the supermarket. It's quite obvious that 99% of people commenting in this thread do not have children etc (including me).

If your late or pissed off because children are getting dropped to school, then you leave early or get a different method of transport. Everyone could rant about 100 things everyday, and one of them is this. When I went to College I just CBFA to walk 30 minutes up a hill (even though I was running 15m+ a week), I was tired, and the car was there, so i got a lift up, took 5 minutes to get there, which left me which an extra 25 minutes of useful time.

I take the car for one reason. My brothers car is awesome.
I live about 5 minutes walk away but hes got a classic old mini with some new engine and it sound really good.
I walk back from school so its not all bad, and if he cant give me a lift i have no problem with walking. It is indeed refreshing, and i often go for walks on the weekend because i feel like it.

And you missed the bit about it being uphill both ways, and always in the snow. With bare feet. :D

I actually did have to walk to school in the snow, or bike when the weather was good, straight through high school (since a ten+ mile walk each way after having to start class an hour earlier wasn't exactly logistically pleasing).

    /ninjaedit - wooties, 11k.

better to have that 30 minutes walk (15 there, 15 back) than nothing over a 5 day week thats 2.5hr of exercise you wouldnt have got otherwise. I agree about the food but thats not what we are talking about in this thread....

Also surely its a lot easier for the parents NOT to take their kids to school. Yes you can do some shopping on the way home but your assuming that one parent doesnt have to go to work.

Lastly i dont think people in this thread are talking about people getting lifts of other people to the same place (ie getting a lift from a mate to college), thats probably a good thing...

I'd take a 5 minute lift up to college or whatever over a 15 minute morning walk anyday, extra sleep, no walk in the morning, not rushed, good times.

So your talking about kids walking to school by themselves, well around here if a child is under say 11, they don't walk to school, and the ones who do are always commented on. It's very very easy for a parent to wake up and drive their child to school instead of walking with their child to the school and back.

Why don't you and the kids walk? Making nine year olds walk a mile because you want to get on the bus?

there is a school near my house that every single bloody day at the same bloody hour every parent comes to collect their kid, by doing this they lock up 4 parallel and perpendicular streets causing a grid lock and utter chaos and stress.

some of the kids live 2km< less from the school, most of them live farther but our bus system is relatively cheap and very efficient, and then there are the rare ones that live in Judas ass..... and even these ones could be instructed to get out of school and go wait at a nearby coffee, shopping centre or garden.

NOOOO lets just get 200+ people into this tight ass street that connects to several other streets in the least amount of time and still be efficient about it.... and of course all of them have to wait until little João and little Maria gets of their ass/stops talking/playing with his friends and starts walking to the car in a slow pace and enter the bloody car in the slowest way possible...... and this at the same time as everyone gets out of work!!

edit: why not get better public transport? or, in the case of flat countries or cities, ride a bloody bicycle?

It's quite obvious that 100% of the people commenting in this thread are either of or were once of school age (including me). The majority of which are basically saying how they (used to) walk to school, over hot coals, dragging dead horses about, no less :D

the only different method of transport is walking (or cycle), the problem is that with the car or bus you wont be faster due to traffic, so what other method of transport? oops.. yep, there is walking oh wait, thats what I suggested.

So what, first day of school my mom showed me the way, from the second day on I walked there... guess what? I survived it.

Well when you have mothers who don't want their children walking by themselves under the age of 10, and then even some kids don't want to walk by themselves (thanks to the media, etc), then you don't have a lot of options. The route which my parents take my brother is all through roads which arn't being used to be honest, we live quite close, and we have a lot of roads to choose from. Coming to think of it, if the route used was on a main road, which was very busy, then I think my parents would walk him (and would of walked me), but we live in an ideal location with a lot of quiet streets.
